"Stunning" is how my 1964 Corvair Monza is most often described - it is considered by some to be one of the 50 most influential cars of all time. I purchased it in 1986 and have loved and cared for this car for the last 30 years. This Corvair recently took second place at one of New England's largest Corvair gathering (Volksvair), nd has also won multiple Peoples' Choice awards. The color is Goldwood Yellow, 1964 GM factory color. This Monza has the highly desirable 4 speed manual transmission and the high output, umbers matching 110 hp motor.History: The car was completely restored just prior to my purchase in 1986. In 2008, decided it needed a little spicing up, o I changed the color from the original Palomar Red Poly (maroon) to the current yellow. This was done with expert care, tripping and resurfacing the body as needed using a guide coat, nd finally painting with Nason polyurethane base coat / clear coat. The result is a show quality paint job. All of the chrome and the stainless steel trim pieces are in excellent condition. Itlooks as good today as when it was freshly done. All pictures were taken within two weeks of of this posting.Along with the repaint, mechanical sorting was performed along with the following updates:- new fuel pump- all new brake lines both hard and soft, new wheel cylinders, new master cylinder, new brake shoes- new Clark's top-shelf adjustable shocks (front set to soft, ear set to firm)- battery relocation to front trunk for better weight distribution- fitment of Performance brand 15" x 6" alloy wheels with new Dunlop G-force sport radials. Original steel wheels with very good tires and original wire wheel hubcaps are included in the sale if you want them.- new suspension bushings, all joints, tc.- new voltage regulator; generator rebuilt- new rear axle bearings and U-jointsThis car handles wonderfully, ery neutral and an exceptionally smooth ride. '64 is the year GM solved the handling issues from the previous years' models. Some people may find it is a bit too civilized, s there is no body roll, o understeer, o oversteer. It will take a corner faster than my MGB, s well as out accelerating and out braking. We recently drove this car ~5 hrs each way to Watkins Glen and arrived comfortable and rested.Needs:- new top. The current top looks good, ut the zipper for the rear window doesn't zip. A new top in correct fabric is $345 from Clark's Corvair.- there is a small seam separation in the front passenger seat, isible in the photos- engine compartment needs cosmetics and detailing to return it to showroom condition- the radio doesn't work. This Monza coupe is ready to enjoy; you can drive it home! It has a fresh tune-up and oil change. If you have any questions or would like to come for a test drive, ive me (Todd) a call at 401-295-2197.
