Description

This is a Original rare 1947 Chevrolet "Woodie" convertible known as a "Country Club" option. It was conceived by Chevrolet to compete with the Ford Sportsman and Chrysler Town and Country convertibles. It has been owned for 25 years by one of the original members of "The National Woodie Club". It is the only "original" one listed out of 4,000 members. It has a perfect wood kit as offered to Chevrolet dealers in 1947 for $195 plus their installation cost. This was a 10% add on to a $1,600 convertible. Imagine today paying $4,000 for a decoration to your $40,000 new car. Therefore not many people purchased or cared for the Ash application and the wood rotted off. It was installed properly by Ashland Wood Products(who installed them in 1947) in 1989 when the car was purchased restored. As a ORIGINAL Ash wood kit it has the correct wood modification, i.e.correct outside key indication to lock by flipping cover open, orrect wood rounding, orrect Di Noc decal inserts, screws and washers. ORIGINAL 8 page APPLICATION MANUAL included with numbers showing on the back of each piece of ASH.I looked for many years to verify a original kit.. I had been offered many home made wood kit cars in my research-none correct. i.e. they could not be locked from the outside. Mine has the correct pear shaped indent. Also the wood had sharp edges=NO rounding on edges,NO chromed "Country Club" metal insets, ne car offered to me had Redwood strips glued all over the trunk!,. The car has been preserved as original, covered in my garage for25 years. It has ALL correct options as offered by Chevrolet in 1947. GM Spotlight with correct handle and switch,GM "foglights", tube Deluxe radio, eater, OS Blue plastic hood ornament(not faded to white),ribbed WW Goodyear tires,Bumper tips, third middle rear vertical guar, front grill guard. I "hear" it is missing a remote spare tire fill?Mechanically it is basically as it was 25 years ago.I disconnected the slow vacuum shift and installed a original split manifold, dual glass packs (very mild rap) and pencil tips. I do not know the mileage but it is low,-speedo has never worked.Car has been driven occasionally with its 6 garage mates to keep up operating systems. For example, he spark plugs and points are the same ones for the last 25 years. It has Chevron Delo oil with Zinc for cam wear changed and lubed as necessary.I have the original postcard as mailed to Dealers, riginal Dealer ad (both pictured), riginal application manual---all go with car. It has been approved for 25 years and displayed at The Candy Store museum in Burlingame California. It is one of two "Woodies" to be invited to be shown at the Blackhawk museum. It is the cover car and article in "Special Interest Autos"It drives beautifully, does not smoke, has been maintained mechanically, brakes last year. Used in many happy Weddings and "Aloha" themed fund raisers. Used by the Original Beach Boys 25 years ago in front of the stage in Napa. Used by The California Beach Boys continuation band last summer before they left for Australia. What it needs to be perfect: Hood corner bent/rubbed by opening door this winter from the Ash swelling in rain due to the fact the car was in a carport for its first time-(twocovers!). A reason to sell-it loved its garage for 25years. At my 78 years of age the male Woodie motto "Happiness is Waking up knowing you own a Woodie" does not apply as often!!!(See picture attached) Slight scratches on sides of front fenders due to careless shopping carts. Slight stains on rear seats and carpet. It is a # 2 by Hagerty-- "#2 cars could win a local or regional show. They can be former #1 cars that have been driven or have aged. Seasoned observers will have to look closely for flaws, ut will be able to find some not seen by the general public. The paint, hrome, lass and interior will all appear as excellent. No excessive smoke will be seen on startup, o unusual noises will emanate from the engine compartment. The vehicle will drive as a new car of its era would. The one word description for #2 cars is "excellent."." A "true" 10 footer. If you are looking for a rare ORIGINAL, ow "production" reasonable Woodie convertible that can be entered in any Woodie event in the world, his is it.
