Back in the day these large Cadillacs were the epitome of American luxury. These were the last years a Cadillac would ever be this large because during this era, the import luxury market started to rise and if Cadillac wanted to be a world leader it would have to soon shrink its design and cubic inches to compete. But during its last years on the market, there was nothing larger you could drive to symbolize your success other than a Cadillac. Massive size, crisp edges, and mammoth cubic inches, you were somebody when you arrived in a Cadillac and in 1976, Cadillac decided this would be the last year ever for a DeVille to be this large. This car offered here today marks the end of an era.
This particular car was rescued from a barn out in PA in September of this year. There is sat for over 16 years just waited to see the day of light again. When I got the car back to the shop, I went through the fuel system, checked and cleaned the brakes and new plugs along with new battery. I got the car running and driving and stopping. The rest of the minor tinkering is up to you. Please read on and scroll down for many pics and video!! Thank you for visiting this auction!
Exterior:
As you can see from the pictures, the car presents very well. Upon close inspection, there are some chips, paint touch ups and dings. Also, the rear deck lid and both upper quarters were resprayed at one time. NO RUST at all around vinyl top. Only surface rust here and there from chipped paint. See photos. All the glass is intact. The chrome is excellent for its original condition and the vinyl top is like new and appears to be original. The trunk and floor and frame are excellent and no rust. Very Very solid car. I installed new fiberglass rear bumper extensions. Tires and hubcaps are also in excellent condition. The headlights need to be adjusted properly. If you wanted to make this a show car a good paint job is necessary. If you want to leave it as a driver, the car presents well as it sits. Please look over all the pics and video and let me know of any questions you may have.
Interior:
As you can see from the pictures the interior is 100% original. The leather is still in excellent original condition showing minor wear mainly on the driver's side. Pay attention to the pictures of the driver's area. The driver's door panel has some separations in the leather, and the driver's seat shows very little wear. The video shows it best. Also, near the climate controls there are some holes drilled I would assume for some sort of emblem or medallionthat would have NOT been factory. Most importantly, please notice the steering wheel. It is in near mint condition which is very, very unusual for Cadillacs of this era. The dash pad is also in near mint condition with no cracks or wear. The ashtray looks just about new. You will need a new hood release lever and cable. Right now there is a pull wire hidden in the outside grill. Please look at all the pics and notice how well this interior has been preserved. Let me know of any questions you may have.
Drive-Train:
There is no replacement for displacement. 500 cubic inch is as big as they come. It seems the longer this car is driven the better it runs. I cleaned the fuel system and cleaned the carburetor as it was running on the car. I also installed new plugs and battery but the car will need more tweaking. I also went through the brakes and adjusted the rears and cleaned them all the way around. Carb rebuild or at least take it off the car and clean it thoroughly. Maybe set the timing. The exhaust needs to be looked at for it is old and a little noisey for a Cadillac. The transmission is strong and shift perfectly. The car is road worthy for short trips as it sits but any long trips I would inspect it thoroughly before you do so. Please watch the video and let me know of any questions you may have.
In Summation:
This is a beautiful example of true 70's luxury. The car is running and driving and stopping and the only thing that is left is some weekend tinkering. The longer this car runs the better it gets. Please ask me any questions you like before, during or after bidding. Thank you!
