West Coast Classics are proud to present an exceptional and great daily driving and virtually all original specification and completely rust free example of this 1948 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible in it's original beautiful and very striking 'Horizon Blue' (color code 7) factory color paint with a 'Red leather' interior, 346CID 2BBL 150HP flathead V8 engine matched to the Hydra-Matic automatic transmission ($174), original radio ($72); power windows, heater/defroster ($76); Hydra-electric convertible top, full carpeting, chrome front & rear fender gravel guards, rear fender skirts, directional signals, dual downdraft carburetor with automatic choke, 'Super Safe' hydraulic brakes, small hubcaps - 1 of only 5,450 series 62 Convertible's built in 1948 and with a whopping retail price of over $3,442 new!
Recently purchased from long-time storage and obviously always garaged with a reportedly rebuilt engine and transmission and new paint in original factory color and new 'Red' leather interior prior to being stored. The floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are completely original, solid and rust-free and the car has no signs of any accidents - obviously an always primarily cherished 'Garage Queen'. The 346 CID V8 engine runs extraordinarily well and this particular car drives absolutely magnificently - must be driven to be fully appreciated - does not miss a beat and purrs like a kitten - drives straight as an arrow - a truly remarkable daily driver considering it's age! The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the car is an absolute pleasure to drive!
The '48 Cadillac's had new postwar styling with the first tail-fins. Tail-fins were inspired by the vertical stabilizers of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter plane and at first were just small bumps on the rear fenders but they would grow to the legendary great heights of the late 50's Cadillac's symbolizing this era of classic American cars. Fins not only became a long standing Cadillac hallmark but were copied world wide. These all new Cadillac's shared a new lower profile and front fenders fully integrated with the front doors along with a new simpler three row egg crate grille with a top grille bar that curved down on the ends. Body-side styling included rocker panel moldings, front fender gravel guards and chrome chevrons below the tail-lights on the Series 62 which distinguished it from the lower priced Series 61.
Under the hood the 346 CID V8 L-Head engine continued for a final season with many enthusiasts preferring this classic flathead V8 engine as being both smoother and quieter, to say nothing of more classic, when comparing it to the next year's all new '49 331 CID overhead valve high compression engine which was both slightly more powerful, and which probably more importantly in it's day, provided better mileage. A new style round instrument cluster capped off the new interior look in 1948, elegantly beautiful both inside and out, and without any doubt one of the most graceful American cars of any period. The 1949 was almost identical in styling although a little heavier in front and with the '49 having a more conventional dash when compared to the one year only drum style instrument cluster of 1948.
This is a rare opportunity to own a superb mostly all original and unrestored survivor example of a simply terrific daily driving example of a very original 1948 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible in it's original factory 'Horizon Blue' color with an exquisite 'Red' leather interior for the Cadillac enthusiast! Highly sought after one year only design and recognized as a 'Milestone Car' and widely coveted both at home in the U.S. and internationally.
