1984 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan
The Fleetwood Body Company of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, was founded by Harry Urich in the nineteenth century. It began as a small community of craftsmen founded by Henry Fleetwood, Esq. of Penwortham, near Lancaster, England (the Fleetwood family flourished in England in the 17th and 18th centuries). The rich traditions of 300 years of coach-building that the Fleetwood Body Company applied to its work on cars secured for it a high reputation in automobile circles worldwide by the 1920s. Coachwork was built by Fleetwood for a variety of luxury makes through 1924. GM having bought both companies named the Cadillac Fleetwood in honor of this early coach building company from Pennsylvania, and the town bearing its name...Fleetwood.
For consignment an original survivor with a mere 42,447 miles with nice light royal blue paint, and a very clean and all conveniences working interior. A smooth 4100HT 4.1 liter V8 is under the hood, it looks just like the day your pop pop drove it off the showroom floor.
Exterior
Straight steel which lines up very nicely with its chromed trimmings is bathed in Light Royal Blue which is hard to say a bad word about. From the square and rectangle design grille and dual rectangular headlights all shiny and nice to the rear coach lamp shaped vertical tail lamps with chrome frames, this car has been well taken care of. Lest we forget a smooth padded to the hilt vinyl top adds to the delicious richness this car offers up in mid-80's style. Even the Cadillac script engraved into the side mirrors is showroom!
Interior
A swing of the massively white padded dual paneled door panels, waltz with wood appliqu and aluminum and chrome trimmings. A full control panel-esque grouping of toggles and joy sticks work all the convenience functions and are at your fingertips. So is the clean door actuator handle and a large bright square courtesy light so you don't scrape your Bruno Maglis on the thresh hold. Panning to the inside there are two tufted buckets which are in 55/45 split form, and wrapped in white leather. There is a padded center armrest which folds upward and disappears from the bucket seats. Having the driver open the rear doors, you can luxuriate in a large padded bench, again with the tufting and buttoning, and central fold up armrest. These wonderful overstuffed recliners float in a sea of deep royal blue carpet that has no stains or scuffs on it. Looking forward to the dash we note plenty of wood appliqu mixed with some dark blue vinyl which houses all the essentials and is fronted by the original steering wheel. In a centrally located bump out from the dash are a digital AM/FM/Cassette player, digital climate controls, and a fuel data gauge...also digital. Noted the covering in plastic is so clear one barely knows it's there.
Drivetrain
Under the massive hood, in a clean un-corroded engine bay sits the 4100HT 4.1 Liter V8. This is original to the car and you can tell and hear it idle, it has been masterfully and faithfully attended to with servicing. It is fuel injected and has a 200 R4 4 speed automatic transmission pushing power rearward to a 10 bolt 3.42 rear axle.
Undercarriage
Slight surface rust on the usual suspects, but the floorpans don't even have any road dirt on them. All solid underneath and power disc brakes for the front, and power drums for the rear.
Drive-Ability
We love these large and in charge Detroit iron behemoths that roll through our door, and this one has no love lost for it. It started right up, was extremely comfortable, and my snappily dressed for the occasion test driver whisked me through the test track and I did not spill a drop of my chardonnay. An excellent experience. What a great job I have indeed, and I could get accustomed to all this hob knobbing with the goober smoocher set.
Well heeled, high class, wealthy, high end, and luxurious still abound in this classic, which rolls you down the road with showroom ease and style, as well as condition. Fastidiously maintained and put away nicely for the next jaunt, this Caddy is truly rad, with a big touch of class!
