This sale is for a genuine A code paint 1969 Hurst SC Rambler. I am not going to sugar coat this in any way but if you are the many who have lusted after these unique rare cars already know the rarity and don't want to pay upwards of$50,000 for one this could be an alternative. It needs everything but make no mistake. It is the real deal.
My father rescued this a number of years ago in a farm field where it had been parked since the 1970's. He had to pay real money to get it. It wasn't cheap. His intent was not to clone a sixcylindercar into the Holy Grail as most try but to restore this car. Life got in the way as well with work and having throat cancer. Although now he is slowly on the mend but no longer wishes to pursue such a project. Sadly this would be the one that got away. Anyway that is where I come in. I am listing for him. Indecentlythe car has been stored much of the time since his ownership indoors. It is largely as he found it.
Several cool factoids about the car. The car was sold at Hawthorne American 1850 Reynolds Ave in Toledo Ohio in 1971 (a parking lot now) We have the original title stating this. According to Amazing Muscle cars the site that documents the SC/Rambler the stats are only 1512 cars were made. Only 234 A scheme paint cars survive. The whereabouts of 1133 cars is unknown. This is one of them.
It is hard to believe today but it has been documented that the SC/Ramblers were a hard sell when new. They were also lettered up at the dealerships and raced. Some were on the lots for over a year or more unsold. A few were painted a solid color. We do not know the history on the car nor have we attempted to remove the paint to look for past racing history. What we do know is the car was painted Big Bad Green as used in 1969 and 70 American Motors paint options. We believe it is one of the above. The car was parked shortly after it was sold due to being hit on the right side below the quarter glass.
The proof it is a Hurst SC/Rambler. The serial # is A9M097X------ As pictured you can see the X along the frame rail behind the quick ratio manual steering box. The trim tag reads paint SPECIAL. The fender lips are rolled. The trunk floor has the staggered shock mount. You can see the factory specific Torque links. Has it's original front disc brakes. Hood pins and Ram air flap in place. The only option on a SC/R was a radio. This has one. You can see the original stripes showing through the edge of the rear glass. The A painted red sides are also showing through.Interestingly the front wheels and Goodyear Polyglas tires still hold air are also original to the car. You can see the correct blue paint hiding under the peeling paint. V8 crossmember in place as well
The bad? You see it. Again it needs everything. There is a 390 Engine block. No transmission. The rear end is not original to the car but one out of a donor Rambler is installed to make it mobile. Plan on rockers and pans and body panels and interior.The previous owner for what ever reason saved the car for over 40 some odd years but cut the door hinges. The doors are only held on with the latch. That is why the doors look ajar. Also the windshield is sitting in place to keep the weather out. It will roll and steer fine to load. What you see is what you get.
Several restoration options to consider. An American Motors 390 and Super T10 four speed from a 1969 Javelin or AMX is interchangeable to the SC/Rambler. Interior parts like seat covers and carpet are beingreproduced. Most everything interchanges with the Rambler American. Windshields are the same from a hardtop to a sedan and are still sold. Plenty of American Motors parts dealers like Kennedy American and a fantastic website devoted to the SC/Rambler mentioned above and not to forget Eddie StakesPlanetHouston AMX
My dad has a solid 1966 Rogue 290 4 speed one of 1500 Black/Gold editions and a solid 67 Rogue 232 A/C should you wish to purchase one or both extra for parts. The sale of these cars will only be discussed with the winner of the auction.
