IF ANYBODY HAS ANY INFORMATION OR HISTORY ON THIS TRUCK I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! THANKS!
This is a real deal steel bodied and chopped Willys Gasser style Survivor from the 60s-70s fresh out of 35 year indoor storage here in Southern California. It is a 1936 Willys Pickup truck known as The Fertile Turtle (it's okay to laugh here) out of Upland, CA. Some of the great old guys that were around back in the day seem to think this truck was built by Chuck Finders who was a very famous builder responsible for some of the biggest names in the Gasser Wars. It certainly has some of the trademarks of his builds but I AM NOT claiming that it is so please do your own research and make your own decision. I have no way of verifying it since unfortunately Mr. Finders passed away in 2009. It was reportedly raced at Lions Drag Strip quite often and then Orange County International Raceway after LADS closed. I do not have a ton of history on the truck as the owner/builder passed away and the estate/wife did not know much about it other than he raced it alot and she never wanted to go with him to the races. It was stored in the garage in the 1980s and had not ever seen daylight since. The paint, interior, and even the tires are as they were. B&M shifter, vintage Stewart-Warner gauges still in the handmade aluminum dash (I believe the original dash is still under there), giant hand brake, roll bar. It was originally raced with a small block and a Powerglide transmission. It now has a 396 cubic inch Big Block Chevy with a Turbo 400 transmission that was installed in the 80s while it was in storage. It has never been raced in this configuration. I have the original distributor that was in it. The HEI was recently installed just to get it running. It does start and run. It will move too but currently has no brakes. I am having the master cylinder fixed before it goes anywhere so it will be much easier to load/unload onto a trailer. 1957 Olds rearend with rear drum brakes. Spindle mount front Cragars, driveshaft loop, the front of the frame has been boxed. Ladder bar style suspension with coil overs. Steel cab, steel doors, steel bed, and I believe an old Cal-Automotive tilt fiberglass front end, glass rear fenders. The Willys will be sold with a Bill of Sale only. This is probably the best deal you will find on an authentic steel Willys anything, let alone one that would be a huge hit on the Nostalgia Drag Racing scene. It is like a time warp. Park this next to your 1933, 1940, or 1941 Coupe in the garage or show up to the Hot Rod Reunion in style this year!
I am located in Solana Beach, CA in North County Coastal San Diego. Inspections in person are encouraged. Thanks and good luck!
I can help with transportation either getting it loaded on a truck or assisting you however I can at the buyer's expense.
