For Sale: 1941 Willys Coupe Street Rod. You are looking at a custom 41 Willys Coupe with 4,200 mi. that is finished and ready to cruise and have fun. It has a modern drivetrain including a 5.3L Vortec motor with electronic fuel injection, a 4L60E transmission and a Ford 9 inch rear end with 2.73 gears This combination is great for a street rod as it provides plenty of torque and power plus good fuel economy. I’ve spent 4 years on the build and refinements resulting in a Willys that runs, drives and handles very well. The paint and upholstery were professionally done adding some nice finishing touches to the ride. This is not a trailer queen, show car, but it does present itself very well as I have won trophies for “people’s choice” awards. I’m ready for another project, but unfortunately, the Willys must go to afford it.
Custom fiberglass body: Many long, dusty hours (weeks, months) were spent refining and finishing the fiberglass body to achieve the proper “fit and finish.” The front section is easily unbolted from the main body to gain access to the engine compartment. Otherwise, the hood provides access for routine maintenance. The doors and trunk lid were custom fit for proper gaps and mating to the body.
5.3L Vortec motor: The motor starts, idles and runs as it should. It has been checked out and dyno-tuned by a performance shop: compression is good, and fuel/air mixture is good. The truck manifold has been replaced with a Corvette LS1 type (“Performance Plus” by Professional Products) and LS1 fuel injectors. The front end serpentine belt drive has been reconfigured with a LS1 water pump and idler pulley. The motor has a custom, shallow “Wiend” oil pan for better ground clearance. There are no oil leaks and oil consumption is normal. The engine has a custom aftermarket “Painless” wiring harness, and the ECM (Engine Control Module) has been re-flashed to remove the security code and match the car specifics. The exhaust system has Sanderson headers and Magnaflow mufflers.
Drive Train: The 4L60E overdrive 4-speed transmission (electronic version of 700R4) is a perfect match for the Vortec motor, and it drives and shifts as it should. The Ford 9 inch rear end with 2.73 gears is solid. The drive shaft has been balanced, and the rear wheel bearings and seals have been replaced.
Frame and Suspension: The front frame, suspension, power disc brakes and power steering are Chevy S10. The rear frame is welded into the S10 frame and has a triangulated 4-bar rear suspension with adjustable coil-over shocks. The powered rear disc brakes are Wilwood. This frame and suspension combination rides and corners well.
