Don't sleep on this one! Volvo 140 series cars come up for sale so infrequently and are nearly impossible to find in anything close to this condition. Collector owned and garaged since 2011. Located in Central Virginia. Clear Virginia title in hand.
1970 Volvo 142, 4-speed in Volvo Safari Yellow with original brown/copper colored cloth upholstery.
This 142 was purchased new on October 1, 1970 from White's Imports in Mobile, Alabama by a college professor (the original window sticker and dealer bill of sale come with the car). The professor drove and lovingly maintained this car for the next 41 years. Every oil change, service visit etc was logged in by the owner in a journal for those 41 years and a large file folder includes nearly all service receipts. Sold in 2011 to owner #2 with approximately 190k miles. The second owner spent over $4,000 refurbishing everything from new brakes, tie rods, ball joints etc. In 2015 the engine got all new valves, new head gasket and the head was machined. I acquired the car in the fall of 2018. Last year I had a local shop (using all original Volvo sourced stock materials) reupholster and rebuild the interior seats. Appears now as like new inside! Original carpet, original Volvo rubber floor mats, door cards, headliner and very rare center console option... all in amazing condition.
This 142 had dealer installed air conditioning and you can see the dash controls and vents in the photo's. The a/c unit stopped working and was removed by the previous owner.
The engine is the original Volvo B20 with dual Stromberg carburetors (factory rated at 118hp). From service records it appears the clutch was replaced at 162k miles and shifts as it should.
The car was repainted in 2001 by the original owner... it was more of a refreshment respray to bring it back to it's original lustre. There are the usual minor nicks and scratches that have been touched up. Other than that there are zero rust issues. This car regularly makes appearances at our local Cars & Coffee but is otherwise driven just around town and I've only added another 500 miles in the past two years.
The dash is perfect- no cracks! There's also a rare working vintage 1970's era Becker Europa II am/fm radio. Twin 6 x 9 speakers are flush mounted behind the rear seats. All gauges work as they should- even the clock, which keeps perfect time. A new Duracell battery was installed in June 2020. The dash is wired for bumper mounted fog lamps. I replaced the lamps but have not rewired them yet.
The car currently rides on Volvo 15" "Virgo" wheels (early 1980's Volvo turbo wheels). Tires are older but have less than 2,000 miles on them.
Being sold exclusive of the British license plate, various emblems and decals.
The car starts right up (manual choke), idles and runs as it should. The current exhaust setup has a nice throaty growl (I have a new OE Volvo muffler comes with the car if desired but it doesn't need one as it sits).
As seen in the trunk photo- this 142 is sold with all service records, Volvo shop manual and original tools wallet, full spare, jack and some spare parts.
Local inspections encouraged (with appointment). I am happy to assist with your shipper (and can recommend one I've used before- if interested). The car is sold as-is/where is.
