This 1973 Volvo 1800ES was sold brand new at Bel Kirk Motors in Washington State. Shortly thereafter the first owner had the license plate with the word "VOLVO" registered with the DMV, it's been with the car ever since, 47 years! This car is even featured on a postcard made for All Volvo repair shop, one is included in the sale of the vehicle. Every document since new comes with this ES, the second owner had it 18 years. This is a very rare original color, only about 105 roadworthy examples exist in this color code (orange) around the world per the 1800 registry. This is a wonderful surviving vehicle that's ready to enjoy, it's a turnkey car needing nothing to drive. This car will WIN some car shows, it's an amazing Volvo 1800ES survivor!
Below are some specifics.
The stock B20 runs and idles nicely, the oil pressure at startup is 35 psi at 1100 RPM's. It's transmission shifts smoothly and hit's 65 mph no problem. The idle when warm sits nicely at 950 rpms. It drives nicely and all the electrics are functional. In the walk around video and driving video I demonstrate the lights, the horn, the radio, turn signals, wipers, fan and emergency flashers. The internal dome lights work as they should. It is a bit cold blooded, takes about 1-2 minutes before warmed up. This 1800ES just had a tuneup where the plugs were changed, rotor and cap, timing and valves were set, it has new front brakes and rebuilt calipers.
The original interior on this ES is amazing. The carpet is in amazing shape for being original along with the leather front seats which are near perfect. The rear seat and cargo area shows very little wear and shows wonderfully. The headliner doesn't droop or have any tears. The top 2 dome lights work as they should. The front windshield does have a small chip on the passenger side, all the other glass is perfect. The rear trunk spare tire area is in amazing shape with zero signs of rust or corrosion. Included in the trunk is the jack, spare tire and some wiper blades.
The body on this 1800ES has zero signs of dings, dents or damage, very straight and the gaps are near perfect. The doors both close with a one finger push, very tight! All the stock seams are present on the front, rear and rocker panels. There is a small bubble on the right rocker panel, please see the photos in the link below for the closeup. All the frame rails and crossmembers are stock and in perfect shape. On the front floors there are 2 small areas the size of a nickel where the undercoating is peeling underneath and surface corrosion is present long with a few small pin holes, future sealing would be needed if in a wet environment. Please see photos.
The chrome and brightwork on this car is amazing, it does have aftermarket side trim with the plastic dent proof insert. The chrome bumpers are perfect, zero signs of rust, corrosion or flaky chrome.
The top dash and lower dash are in pristine shape, zero signs of cracks or dry areas in them. The clock is not functional.
This 1973 Volvo 1800ES comes with a clean WA State title, original manuals, receipts and 3 sets of keys.
