For sale this rescued 1973 Volvo 1800ES. I got it off eBay a few years back from someone who wasn't properly caring for and exercising it. Things I addressed include: fuel injection system sorted, engine tuned up, starter replaced, electronic overdrive fixed, new suspension bushings installed, front subframereplaced, and basic inspection items as needed. Since then I've been driving it and basically bringing it back to life. Mechanically it's all set to go. It would be a fine, solid runner as-is. It cruises great, especially on the open road when you engage the electronic overdrive and put your foot down. It recently passed inspection no problem. I would drive it away pretty much any distance without a second thought. My plan was to just drive and enjoy it the way it is, but I don't have the space, and I have other cars in need of rescue.
This car is also a fabulous restoration candidate. Overall the unibody is complete and solid. The only problem areas are a little penetrative rust behind the right rear wheel, some rusty bubbling around the rear hatch, and a little rot in the passenger floor pan (all pictured). The paint job is pretty beat, and there are nicks and dings here and there. The interior is also past its prime. There are big cracks in the dash, splits in the seats, and the carpeting is not good, especially in the back with all that glass. Gauges work for the most part, as do lights and other controls. The heater and the blower fan work, but it needs a cable from the control to the heater valve, and the ducts keep falling off.
This car is a great find, and probably your cheapest way into 1800ES ownership. I've done the hard part, and brought it back up to proper running condition. All that's left is to enjoy it, or fix up the cosmetic bits and show it. Just a few more miles and you'll see it into the quarter-million mile club. I'm available to help coordinate pickup within reason, and/or you could literally drive it away anywhere you need to take it.
