Volvo P1800E, 1971
76,000 mileage rust free California car, extensively serviced
Originally sold in California and there until 2003 (or later), brought East and stored in an owner's garage. Just awakened after a long sleep and extensively serviced and prepared.
Excellent original engine, 175-190 psi compression in every cylinder, 65 psi oil pressure when hot and on the highway, zero smoke cold or hot. Excellent 4 speed transmission with overdrive (clicks in and out instantly). Excellent rust free body, repainted once in original color (Many years ago), just wet sanded and buffed to a beautiful finish, perfect seams, no little dents or dings, and floors/chassis are like new.
Excellent original leather seats, new carpets and padding, perfect original headliner and door panels, perfect sunvisors, all electrics and all gauges work properly. Has rare factory air conditioning that has just been improved using a modern high efficiency rotary compressor and R12 refrigerant.
Work just done: new engine oil and filter, new trans and overdrive oil, new differential oil, fully lubricated, new fuel filter, cold start injector and fuel pressure tested (factory perfect pressure...looks like fuel pump is new), heater valve cleaned and adjusted, new ATS alloy wheels with new H rated 195/65 radials, all new exhaust system, new shocks, new IPD sway bar (front and rear) kit installed, brakes fully serviced (four wheel disc with power assist), new Sony stereo/CD with USB input, new 6 1/2" door speakers installed, extra 12v outlet placed under dash with two USB outputs, new Nardi wood steering wheel installed, cooling system drained and flushed, electronic ignition installed, front end checked, all door and trunk locks cleaned and lubricated, spare keys made, new wiper blades, washer nozzles cleaned and adjusted, new seat webbing installed, interior lights working, valves adjusted, new door and hood seals replaced (car is remarkably quiet on the highway), the list goes on and on.
I had all of this work done professionally, no expense was spared, drove it 300 miles, and found a different make and model period coupe that better fits in my collection (of English sports cars). Hence, the sale of this beautiful Volvo.
Heater is very powerful, windshield and rear window rubber seals and compression strips are like new, same with chrome and bumper rubber strips, starts instantly, runs flawlessly, excellent ride and handling, tight and quiet, even has such items as original spare tire/wheel cover, a matching right side mirror installed, and a nice new wood shift knob.
With the powerful heater and modern upgraded a/c, this 46 year old Volvo can be used and enjoyed as an alterative to a contemporary car. Easily cruises (in overdrive) at 70, 80, 90, even 100 mph, with its new door seals and exhaust is very quiet, and either seats four or (with the rear seat folded down), can carry a lot of luggage.
I have the original California registrations showing its West Coast history (from 1971 through 2003) and the photos taken underneath show this to be an absolutely rust free classic. Being that the world record for mileage is an earlier P1800 on Long Island with over 3 million miles put on by its original owner, I would think this car with a mere 76,000 miles (over 46 years) has a lot of life left in it.
What is especially nice is that the car is a nice blend of classic rarity, beautiful lines, with real style and the modern heater, a/c, fuel injection, power assist four wheel disc brakes, sophisticated yet simple suspension, five speed transmission, and extremely comfortable seats (even have lumbar support adjustment). Haven't had the slightest issue getting any parts and working on the car is easy. All making this car one of the most usable of all classics.
