Car description |
---|
The radiator was cleaned and new material added. The engine, fan and radiator were cleaned and repainted, as were all parts under the hood that could be painted to look like new.
The body had almost no rust on it to start with, but has been professionally stripped, primed and painted a gorgeous 1963 corvette metallic blue. Floor panels on both driver and passenger sides were replaced before painting, as one of the weaknesses of the 1800 is pooling of water on those floors. The enginecompartment was repainted when the engine was out of the car. Body and paint work were done by the pros at Valenti Classice in Franklin, Wisconsin. The paint literally glows in sunlight. The front exterior black grill wasreplaced. All exterior chrome, including light housings and trim, was eitherre-plated or replaced, depending on condition. The wiper arms are new. The front and rearbumpers were sent to Utah for show-quality re-chroming. Rubber on the bumpers is new. The aluminum wheels were unique to the 1971 model and made for that year only due to the expense. The wheels on this car were powder coated black then the aluminum shaved to restore them to theiroriginal appearance. They absolutely wow you! Thecenter wheel caps were re-chromed. The chrome wheel rings are new. All window and door seals have been replaced with new rubber.
The interior was restored to near original condition, with new leather on the bucket seats as well as new webbing and foam, new webbing under the rear seat, new carpet, new upper and lower dash pads (Not just covers), and a new headliner. The visors were recovered in matching white vinyl.Door panels are new. Gauges were cleaned but kept original. The clock and original radio were reinstalled, even though they donot work, in order to maintain the originality. The shift knob was replaced. The steering wheel was kept original for that 1970's skinny look. Rubber on the pedals is new. Window cranks are replaced with nicer examples. Heater and AC work fine.
There are so many new mechanical parts I can'tpossibly remember them all, but they include:interior engine parts, fuel injectors, fuel regulator, battery, chrome battery holder, brake master cylinder, rear brake lines, rear brake calipers, aluminum finned valve cover, chrome oil cap, tires, hoses/belts, chromed air conditionercompressor, (replacing the old piston one), clutch, clutch fork, one rear brake proportioning valve (the other one was rebuilt), speedometer cable, gas tank, complete exhaust system, chromed dual tail pipes, starter motor, distributor cap and rotor, ignition coil, and fuel pump.
In addition, a few miscellaneous new and used parts are included. I have new mud flaps and cardboard trunk liner, for example, but decided not to install them. In thetrunk is the original jack and vinyl spare tire cover. The rubber trunk mat is new. There is a spare tire, but that wheel was not restored like the wheels on the car. It is perfectly functional but the aluminum is pitted.
This car had one owner in Virginia, then sat in a garage for years. When the owner died, his children uncovered the car and sold it to a dealer in Washington, DC, who in turn sold it to me in 2013. It had not been licensed at that point since 1994. The dealer changed the fluids, put in a new battery, turned the key and it started! These B 20 engines are amazing. That said, itdeservedrebuilding, thus the restoration. This beauty could be in a show if you wanted. Otherwise it drives superbly well and could be your daily driver.
The suspension system did not receive any service, so I presume the car will eventually need new shocks. I do not know of ANY other problems other than the radio and clock as mentioned above. There are modern radios with a vintage look that would fit right in the dash opening if you are so inclined. It is being sold AS IS, though you are encouraged to test drive it you wish. The car can be picked up or shipped from suburban Chicago. I can assist in loading it, but once onthe truck it is your responsibility.
I love this car, but am ready for a new project. That makes you the winner! All the hard work is done. You could tinker a bit if you want, though.
The 1800 is a real head-turner. I have lost count of the number of people whocomment, stop by to talk, honk orgive a thumbs up when I'm out and about with it. And they are built to last. This baby should runforever!
Additionalpictures of any part of the car are available upon request. Please ask any questions you may have. Thanks for looking.
