You will be very hard pressed to find a finer example! It has undergone a complete and concours-level restoration and now looks showroom new. The previous owner Achieved First Grand National status at the 2016 AACA Grand National Meet at Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport and Senior Concours in 2011! Nineteen fifty-four was the first model year for the key start switch, dual sun visors, flat wiper arms and a three-position dome light. This example was made in Volkswagen’s Essen factory on May 6, 1954. At 5,866 miles, the previous owner invested over 350 hours in restoring this car, from November 19, 2010 to December 6, 2011. Still retains its original metal body, original glass and original pans. Nearly all the parts used for this restoration were refurbished originals or new old stock (NOS). As part of the car’s documentation, there is a photo book showing the Bug before, during and after restoration. Dressed in correct Stratos Silver (code L-227), the car’s paint and trim are in excellent overall condition. The doors close with typical German solidity, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the battery tucked under the rear seat looks good and the trunk is clean and comes with a full-size spare tire with matching wheel and wheel cover. The straight bumpers without hoops are shiny and mirror the rest of the exterior’s condition. The gauge cluster, Hella headlights, floor heater, emergency brake and windshield wipers all work, this model has the semaphore turn indicators in the B-pillars, reserve fuel switch and fixed rear quarter windows. Out back are heart-shaped brake lights and an oval rear window. The gas cap has its original flip-over seal still. This Bug rolls on Firestone gum-dipped wide whitewalls, size 5.60-15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on a steel wheel painted gray and topped with a full moon wheel cover. The wheels are in excellent order while the tires are in very good order. New-for-1954 was a 1.2L flat, air-cooled four-cylinder, which had a single Solex downdraft carburetor. A four-speed manual transmission with synchromesh acts as the motor’s dance partner along with 4.4:1 gearing. This numbers correct drivetrain has been professionally rebuilt to original specifications.Inside, the Jupiter Gray interior (code L-225) is in similar excellent shape. The correct cloth front buckets and rear bench seats look great, as does the matching carpet and headliner. A lighter gray, two-spoke steering wheel adds a dot on contrast while the inner door panels and metal dashboard take you right back to 1954 and Max Hoffmann’s east coast distributorship. A floor-mounted shifter and a Blaupunkt Frankfurt LMKU (long, medium, short and ultra-short or FM) radio complete the interior.Since the completion of the restoration in 2011, it has received AACA Senior National First Place in 2011 and AACA Grand National First Place Junior Winner in 2016. Documentation includes original owner’s manual, a “restoration book” of photos – before, during and after restoration and a certificate from Volkswagen’s auto museum.Competition to this Bug in 1954 included Kaiser-Frazer’s Henry J and Nash’s Metropolitan. If you’re a specific Volkswagen collector that demands only the best examples then this Beetle should be absolutely considered! Come by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check out this exceptional early example of the VW Bug from the era when cars like this were mostly overlooked.VIN: 10647070EIN: 2250029
