This Vanagon was in indoor storage for 16 years in the dry climate of Carson City and is exceptionally rust free. If you know your Vanagons you know the rust starts at the body seams and that is why I've included so many photos of them. The paint is original so you know the seams have not just been Bondo'd over. Around one wheel there is paint chipping from a poorly installed set of snow chains, likely from one usage. The sliding door has a scrape across the bottom but opens and closes without evidence of more serious damage. There are the usual dents and chips and it is understood it needs to be painted one day with good modern paint. Some of the nastier jobs have already been done. The fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter and most of the fuel lines have been replaced. The power windows have had the switches relocated (and wiring upgraded) with the GoWesty kit, which is a highly recommended modification. The windows fly up and down whereas they used to labor in both directions. The power door locks are functional (although the drivers door actuator is original and noisier than the others, so we are including a spare). The outside rearview mirrors are of the power style but lack the wiring or switch (the motors have been tested good) These are desirable because of the superior mounting. (The manual mirrors flop around and vibrate. They also crack the doors) The power steering rack is brand new (not rebuilt). Alternator is a Bosch factory remanufactured unit. New NAPA battery.New SewFine Carpets and floor mats. Curtains with windshield snap-in privacy blind. Mattress extension over the engine to make the fold down rear seat into a nice size bed. Door panels replaced so that there are no holes for switches. New radio with 2 USB ports, Bluetooth, handsfree phone, Sirrus XM satellite radio receiver. Passenger seat swivels. Center consul. Automatic transmission. Air conditioning. Cruise Control (factory installed). Newly powder coated factory alloy wheels. New Windshield washer pump and dual outlet squirters. Factory clock works. The engine is a factory replacement with about 30,000 miles on it. The grillwork and head lamps have been converted to the earlier round head light style (much better lighting). A poor man's version of the $2,000 South African grill work and head lights (just no fog lights). There's a secret switch to disable the starter motor for theft protection. This van has had much love and has much to give a new owner.
