Among lovers of the iconic Samba microbus, the 1962-67 models were especially prized by buyers in the mid '60s for their many available configuration combinations and innumerable options. Available features included split-window styling, solid or clamshell side doors, larger, more convenient tailgate and rear windshield (making maneuvering and parking a far less stressful proposition) and even more unique options like an enormous, folding panoramic sunroof. Straight out of The Rick Hendrick Heritage Center Collection, this perfectly restored Volkswagen 21-window Samba bus is powered by a rebuilt and detailed 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The exterior features Mouse Gray and Pearl two-tone paint with red pinstriping, an open roof with folding canvas cover, split safari windshield, six pop-out windows, right-side cargo doors and white painted bumpers with tubular overrider bars. Inside the cavernous interior are split-bench front seats with seat belts, front compartment German square-weave carpeting, rear cargo area with vinyl bench seating and vinyl flooring, VDO gauges and a refurbished steering wheel and controls. The Samba rides on color-matched steel wheels with factory hubcaps and whitewall tires. Great attention to detail was spent during the restoration process and it resulted in a terrific Volkswagen Samba. Unlike some vehicles that come into and out of favor with changing tastes, the Samba is as wildly popular today as it was when built. In fact, as soon as 21-window production ended in 1967, it became an instant classic, and has remained so ever since.
