Car description |

This 2-owner Cabriolet was a garage find, after having been kept in storage since 2006. We were extremely surprised to find it was in excellent condition, with zero rust! However, because it was off the road for so long, we decided to embark on the journey of bringing it back to life. The mechanical reconditioning process was extensive, to put it mildly. The car had such a great story, we found it impossible to resist.
The second owner purchased this car locally, in 1993, at Tom Bush VW in Jacksonville. The original paperwork was included with the sale, and can be verified on the Carfax. It shows no history of accidents or damage and confirms the car spent all of it's time in sunny Florida. The body is remarkably free from the rust issues that plague these cars. Very clean and straight both inside and out, it's obvious it was well cared for. The top is in excellent condition and the interior is equally as nice. Amazingly, the upholstery is free from rips or wear and the dash isn't cracked or split. A period correct cassette deck was installed sometime in the mid-nineties and includes the requisite CD changer in the trunk. The original top boot, owners manuals, jack, and original VW keys were included as well. The odometer shows the car was used sparingly, and we found it be largely original. A cosmetic respray was done pre-2005 in the factory red hue, and still presents nicely. The original VW steel wheels and beauty rings make this one a real head turner. It looks awesome inside and out.
We started by having the fuel tank removed and cleaned. After which, the spark plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires, accessory drive belts, hoses, and vacuum lines were replaced. We had a new alternator, radiator, BOSCH battery, in-tank fuel pump, in-line fuel pump, 4 fuel injectors, coolant temp sensor, knock sensors, water temp sender, and fuel pressure regulator installed. Both front CV axles and 4 brand new tires were installed and a new muffler was added for good measure. A new timing belt, water pump and tensioner were installed as a precaution. The shifter bushings were replaced to remedy the usual sloppy VW shifter. New fluids, and an induction cleaning service was also performed. The AC was evacuated and recharged with R134 and BLOWS COLD!! Long story short, everything that had expired from sitting was refreshed or replaced. All of the service was done by a VW specialist locally here in Jacksonville,FL.
The 1.8L motor is peppy, and the 5-speed manual transmission makes this one super fun to drive. It tracks straight and true, and turns heads wherever it goes. The accessories, power windows, VDO gauges, heat and AC all work properly. We haven't been able to find a technician with the required software to reset the airbag warning lamps. Please inquire with any questions, we'd be happy to tell you more about the car!
Florida buyers will be responsible for sales tax, title, and registration. Keep in mind, this VW does qualify for an Antique tag in FL. No warranty is expressed, implied, or conveyed in the sale. This is a 30 year old VW, and does have wear and tear to be expected with the age and mileage on the vehicle. We feel strongly that it's among the nicest ones available, but we want to be 100% transparent. Please inquire with questions or concerns, as we'd love to tell you more about the car.
