1987 Vanagon GL Syncro 2.5 Liter Fully Customized

This is a second owner Vanagon purchased in 2006. This model is one of only 49,000 4WD Vanagons brought into this country. A solid conversion and restoration was completed on this vehicle using the following vendors:

Outback Racing in Buena Park, CA. - 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5 liter crash test motor and ECU

Rancho Performance Transaxle in Fullerton, CA. - Third and fourth gear ratios changed.

Small Car Performance in Tacoma, WA. - Most conversion adapters including modified oil pan.

Sew Fine Interior Products in Denver. CO. - replacement of all interior panels including sun visors and seats.

Exterior

● Custom Two tone Paint Job.

● Piaa Driving Lights.

● Clear turn signal lenses with amber globes and smoked rear turn/tail/brake lenses.

● Large removable tinted sunroof/moon roof with tilt up venting feature.

● Powered Venturi Vent with spare top and 3 speed fan with intake and exhaust.

● Limo tint on back 5 windows and reduction tinting on driver and passenger windows.

● 5 Mercedes 16 inch rims with Nokian Van tires rated for the snow with no wear.

● Customized spare tire carrier reshaped to accept the larger rim and tire.

● Rechromed front and rear bumper.

● Chromed muffler.

● Powered drivers and passenger side mirrors with defrost function.

● Complete rubber seal kit w/an entire new set as well. Company mistakenly sent me two sets

● Front grill bra and custom magnetic screened window covers to keep bugs out.

Interior

● All interior accessories work on a constant with no need to have key in ignition.

● New Audi headliner.

● Complete new paneling including sun visors and seats.

● New carpet kit with a molded rubber front seats floor mat for extreme weather.

● Wired for a satellite radio receiver

● Premiere Audio head unit running two amps with two 8 inch JL audio subwoofers and two 6x9 coaxial JLAudio w/ separate tweeters with 6x9 Pioneer triaxles in the rear to round out the sound.

● Complete sound proofing of vehicle everywhere except the roof. (See pictures)

● Modified tachometer to represent engines higher redline

● LED lighting throughout vehicle including stock lighting housings.

● Two battery system.

● Custom built and carpeted gauge cluster including; oil pressure, oil temp, cylinder head temp and voltage.

Mechanical

● 2006 2.5 liter Subaru Legacy near new crash test motor with matching ECU

● professionally modified transmission: thirdand fourth gear taller to better mate with the new motor.

● New radiator and stainless steel lines.

● Big Brake kit front and rear.

● New bushings installed recently on both front sides

● Custom fabricated air intake with K & N Air filters setup.

● Alternator, power steering pump are now Subaru. (Easily replaceable)

Mechanical Notes

● 16 inch tires made this van extremely stable.

● New motors output is approximately 100 hp over stock motor and more reliable.

● The new motor is capable of overwhelming the vehicle, at about 85 mph you don't feel safe going anyfaster, yet it can cruise at 85 all day long and climb hills as well.

● The four wheel drive system is automatic and activates when slippage is detected. Vehicle also has an oemvacuum activated locker system for the rear two wheels.

This van was wonderful project, a fantastic beach, concert, vacation vehicle. A real looker.

A toy hauleris in my future and unfortunately, this beautiful van has to go.
