Car description |
---|
Originally sold in California on October, 7th, 1968 and is titled as a '68 and the chassis number reflects 1969. Original owner's manual with dealer documented "Viz." date 10.7.1968 and original owner maintenance notes through 1985. 1493cc "Boxer" flat four cylinder, Chassis Number 149042755 and engine number H5461682. The odometer shows 58,793 and it appears to be original mileage: Ohio title states "not actual mileage" but the documentation reflects otherwise.
Automatic transmission: VW introduced the clutch-free AutoStick transmission in 1968. The AutoStick transmission shifts through all of the gears.
My elderly neighbor purchased this vehicle in October 2016 from a gentleman in Mansfield, Ohio. He purchased the car 12 years earlier from the previous owner who moved from California to Columbus, OH. The vehicle was properly stored and the underbody is nearly rust free, including the rear suspension torsion bar tubes. The floor pans from the interior show only surface rust. A full restoration would require some TLC for the interior as well.
He planned to fully restore the Karmann Ghia but health issues have prevented him from moving forward. The VW starts and runs but has been stored/not driven for 15 years; he trailered the coupe when he purchased the vehicle in 2016.
There is plenty of seepage and a very minimal amount of oil spots on the garage floor.
Original Sunset paint (code L31K) and matching engine numbers. The paint is extremely sun-faded and it appears there was some minor body work on the rear decklid and the driver side front quarter panel. I went over every inch with a magnet and only found evidence of body filler on the driver side quarter panel.
