Car description |
---|
This is a very nice Volkswagen Type 181 Thing at a real decent price. It's not a $25k fully restored thing, so please don't think that's what it is. I have 100% feedback and try to be as honest as I can, as if I were the buyer looking at a car.
I will try to describe it to the best of my abilities as honest as I can be. It is a 45+ year old car. It's antique/vintage car and not brand new, nor fully restored so please don't expect either one. Pictures ALWAYS look better than in person.
Now, with that that said, If you are looking for a good, classic Volkswagen Thing to drive around and get lots of looks-- here it is. Looks great 10' away. It is an original white Volkswagen Thing, that has been painted at one time or another well before I have owned it. There are a few light scratches and paint chips here and there throughout. You are welcome to come look at the car prior to bidding. The car is also for sale locally and I have the right to take the ad down if it should sell locally before auction ending. I have posted over 100 more photos in the link below, along with a video of the engine running. In the past TWO years the Thing has had: -New Clutch -New Pressure Plate -New Throwout Bearing -New Brake Shoes (all around) -New Brake Lines -New Master Cylinder -New Tires -New Carpet Kit -New Gas Tank, Fuel Lines and Filters -New Tail Lights & Seals -New Front Signals & Seals -New Wheel Cylinders Just recently (Past month) -New Spark Plugs & Spark Plug Wires, Fuel Filter -New Battery -New Exterior Mirrors -New Antenna -Valves Adjusted & Oil change
I am sure I am forgetting a few things, as a lot of money has done into this car, but this is what I can recall.
The side curtains (windows) have been redone at some point and are very clear to see through- they are very nice! Convertible top is in very good shape, no holes. The decals are a dealer option (added on) and they show beautifully. Floors have been patched by the battery tray.
Gas heater was tested by the owner before me and was told it was a working unit. I have not tried (I am not the biggest fan of them.) Engine is a strong running 1600cc Dual Port, it's a original matching numbers Engine (#AM010966) It does not smoke or use any oil.
Transmission shifts smoothly. No issues. All lights, wipers, etc work properly (including the glove box light!) But sometimes the fuse panel will play games (typical VW electrical) This Thing comes with a roll bar that is not shown in photos. Also comes with a few other parts, including new engine seal and a few other things. No known accidents. Odometer reads 28,700. Currently insured for $15,000. This is a NO RESERVE auction. Clear South Carolina Title
*A $400 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of the end of the auction. Remainder due by cash (preferred), bank check, or a bank wire within 10 days of the end of the listing. If car is to be shipped, I will help the buyer with shipping, but buyer is responsible for all arrangement of shipping.
