1981 VW Vanagon 4 cylinder air cooled engine (don't know if it's original) 4 speed manual transmission, Riviera poptop which has some slight cracks but does not leak inside and canvas with zip screen windows. The body has a couple small dents and minor rust spots. It has a current inspection and is registered in Delaware. The speedometer works but the odometer stopped working at 165,532 miles. The clock keeps perfect time. New Pioneer Radio/CD with remote and speakers. Heater duct cables do not work.
Modified interior with Fridge, stove and sink removed but are included along with original table. Hardwood floor has been installed. Very nice Route 66 theme interior. Back seat and rear mattress have been reupholstered and the window curtains and front full curtain is Route 66 fabric.
New Hella E-Code H4 90/100 watt headlights, 4 new flexible brake lines, rear wheel cylinders and master cylinder installed. New fuel line from tank to engine with new fuel filter. Fresh tune-up. Engine burns a half quart of oil between 3,000 mile oil changes. Starter and muffler replaced in 2015. New sway bar end links and rubber parts in front suspension. Includes original jack.
This vehicle has made 2 trips in 2015 & 2019 on old Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica pier and back with no problems at 6,000 + miles round trip. It runs very smooth, drives straight and can be driven anywhere without concern. If you want to travel Route 66, this is the way to go for an adventure of a lifetime. It is also a huge attraction at all cruise-ins and car shows and gets endless compliments. Wherever you go expect to spend extra time letting people photograph it. It is a very fun vehicle to cruise in.
