Selling my 1979 Westfalia Deluxe after 15 years of ownership. Bus is in good condition. Original engine runs well and has been amazingly reliable over this time. Transmission shifts smoothly without any grinding or popping out of gear. All electrical components work as they should. Runs and drives beautifully, all camping equipment works.
I purchased the bus with 41,000 miles in 2003. It had been owned by an older gentleman who used it for occasional trips. Unfortunately he didn't garage it so it did rust, but mechanically and interior-wise it was very sound.
Within the last 8K miles work completed by me includes:-New clutch, throw out bearing and rear main seal-Basic tune up (plugs, points, rotor and cap, timing adjustment)-Re-manufactured front brake calipers, new rear shoes with turned original drums, backing plates, star adjusters.-great used condition 1979 only heater boxes (needs new control boxes)-New Fuel sending unit-Fuel Injector hoses all replaced with proper clamps, new injector seals (2 years ago)-New exhaust system
Body is straight but there is rust with perforations in the typical bus rust spots...wheel arches, rocker panels, rear corners, rear apron and battery tray, and bottom of sliding door. There is also rust and rot in the front beam endplates, pictured. It's been like this since I purchased the vehicle in 2003, and I have driven it approximately 24,000 miles but obviously it should be addressed. clean front beams can be had for around $400. Floors are all very solid, slider operates smoothly, doors close properly and all locks and ignition work with one key. All glass in good condition with good seals.Jalousie windows work properly. Bus sits on Hankook RA08's with plenty of tread. The bus also came equipped with the BA-6 gasoline heater under the floor...it's still there but not operational (are any?)
Camping equipment is all there and all works...this is the deluxe, so it has not just an icebox but a chest refrigerator that works off shore power. 2 burner stove and sink both work. All cabinetry is in excellent shape with great condition laminate. No holes cut in anything, beyond two speakers in the front door panels. Pop top fabric was replaced back in 2004 with quality 3 window canvas. Still in great shape with no rips or tears to canvas or screens. Z-bed fabric and top bunk fabric are all excellent. All original curtains INCLUDING windshield curtain are there, as is the original rear hatch screen in it's original bag. Also included (not pictured) is the original child's cot for the front passenger area and the original small table and leg that snap into the dashboard between the front seats...great for drive in movies. Rear table is in great shape as well with fold out leaf. Original carpets are in very good condition. Front seats are very good with only a small hole in the bolster of the driver's seat fabric. Dashboard is the nicest you've seen with no additional holes drilled and no cracks or fading. All in all, this is one of the best original unrestored interiors I have ever seen...better than some fully restored busses. It even comes with the original 15 amp power cord for hooking up to shore power. The only thing it doesn't have is the westy stool between the seats.
Included with the sale will be a set of new heater cables that I never installed. Also included are the original supporting owners manuals for the bus, camping equipment, stove, and Dometic fridge.
Winning bidder must pay deposit of $500 within 24 hours of close. Balance by cash or bank check only. (deposit may be Paypal.) Winning bidder responsible for pickup or delivery.
