For sale! 1964 VW Bug with recent moderate restoration
This Bug is yellow inside and out, has two tone brown and cream vinyl interior and pop out rear windows.
According to some previous owner documents, the Bug was originally purchased from Western Motors in Great Falls, Montana. I have what appears to be a log of the maintenance intervals since 6-25-67. In 1989/1990, at 134374 miles, the motor was rebuilt and upgraded from a 1200 to a 1300. Included in the rebuild were new cylinders, pistons, rings, clutch disc, 12 volt Porsche generator, new green paint, seats were reupholstered, plus much more.
We purchased the car in 2014 from a dealer in Encinitas, California. My wife wanted a yellow bug instead of the current green, so a moderate restoration was done. First, a local VW/hot rod shop did a complete mechanical inspection of the engine, transmission, clutch, brakes, and suspension. After getting the passing grades, it was off to the body shop.
The car was completely disassembled, except from the chassis, and new yellow paint was sprayed inside and out. During reassembly, the window rubber, trim pieces, running boards, bumpers, and hub caps were all replaced with brand new pieces. Since the seats and door panels were redone during the 1989/1990 mod, and were still in great shape, only new carpeting and a new Bluetooth Stealth stereo with two 6x9 Kenwood speakers were added. The car was rewired from headlight to taillight. No rust was found during this process, but the drivers side floor pan had been previously replaced.
This was going to be my wife's, "Sunday driverâ€, but she never got in to the classic car state of mind. I still drive it and have taken it to some local shows. It runs great and gets lots of thumbs up and compliments from everyone. The odometer shows 36,936 which I assume is 136,936. It does have a small ding in the passenger door that you really have to look for, and a small cut in the headliner just above the dome light, but still in great shape. Perfect car to drive to your local shows, or just drive and enjoy.
I would like to sell it to start a new project but I'm not in a hurry so no low ball offers please. Only trade consideration would be for a 1964 El Camino in like condition.
