1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia Full Camper:
This is a full restoration with a new (300 miles) upgraded VW 2.1L engine & in-dash AC. All of the work has been oriented toward making the van functional, reliable, and fun to drive, so it can be used for what it was built for. Just about everything on the van is new or has been replaced - at most - in the preceding 30k miles, with most of the work (including the paint & body) done less than 4 months ago.
The van has 118,000 original miles and I am the third owner. Included are 5 years of complete scanned & digitized service records and receipts, totaling more than $50k of investment. Clear title, no liens, and ready to drive.
Why am I selling?
Life is changing and it's time to see it passed on to someone that will use it more and care for it as well or better than I have. I have been entertaining a sale for a while. As a government contractor, the federal government shutdown has threatened my job security and motivated me to consider its sale.
Engine:
4 speed manual with custom 2.1L water-cooled VW engine rebuilt by AVP California, fire suppression system, new exhaust, water pump, coolant hoses, expansion tank, pressure cap, thermostat housing, radiator, radiator baffles, coolant sensors, fuel lines, Bosch fuel pump, Van Café aluminum fuel rails, O2 sensor, fuel tank, sending unit, filler neck, fuel evap control system, GoWesty fuel filter upgrade & mount kits, locking gas cap, distributor cap, rotor, plugs, wires, OEM Bosch alternator, clutch, resurfaced flywheel, clutch master & slave cylinder, hydraulic lines & seals, shifter hardware & guide bushings.
Suspension:
GoWesty 1.5" lift springs, Koni shocks, new steering rack, tie rods, steering rack boots, bushings, wheel bearings, ball joints, wheel lugs, rebuilt front calipers, new pads, discs, new rear cylinders & drums, new brake master cylinder, GoWesty stainless steel brake lines, new rear axles.
Exterior:
Complete body restoration: matched OEM VW Ivory paint, zero rust, seam welds cleaned, repaired, and painted, new front windshield glass, windows removed and reinstalled with new seals, RMW front and rear steel bumpers, VW SA OEM front grille /w Hella H4 + H3 dual beams, WW SA OEM mud flaps, LED running lights, signals, reverse lights, 2" rear hitch receiver, tire carrier, 5 gal jerry can system (can not included), Shady Boy awning, truck mirrors, RMW 16" wheels /w Grabber AT2 tires, new seals, new skylight (hardware & seals), GoWesty luggage carrier retention system with Pelican case.
Interior:
Smallcar Performance folding seats with swivel adapters, OEM VW SA mud mats and step mats, heavy duty window crank handles & hardware, Smallcar Performance Vanagon in-dash AC system, Custom walnut hardwood floors, in-dash Bluetooth audio receiver, subwoofer, 50 AH aux battery, 100W Renogy solar panel, 4-band 4G/LTE 12V cellular signal booster, Engel 12V fridge/freezer, new LP tank, 3000 BTU Wave 6 catalytic propane heater, 3" custom foam mattress.
The 43 qt Engel fridge ($1000) is so efficient it will keep your stuff cold and the battery charged in decent sun indefinitely. Turn on the cell booster and call your mom or VPN from BFE with 5 bars of LTE and a stocked fridge.
The AC system is about a $7k project. It is absolutely necessary in hot summer weather and it is absolutely exceptional compared to the stock Vanagon system. In the SE summer heat I can finally drive down the Interstate at 70 mph in relative peace with the windows rolled up.
Spares:
On-road spares include fuel pump, oil filter, belts, alternator, electrical components, plugs, wires, distributor components, etc. Take it to Mexico? Alaska? No problem.
Other spares and uninstalled components include a 2" front hitch receiver, off-road LED light bar, numerous spare camper parts, a brand new tent canvas (original is in VG condition), front door window seals, and extra seal material.
Terms:
I have done my best to include representative photos of everything. Make no mistake, this van is in exceptional condition and is meant to be used and lived in. It is not, however, a show car, and if you hunt you will find minor blemishes commensurate with age and use. I maintain that you will not find a better example of a functional, reliable '84 Westy nearly anywhere, though.
Local pickup or shipping at your expense. I am not opposed to delivering myself for the cost of fuel and a return plane ticket, and I'll offer a complete walkthrough of the systems. Title is free and clear of all liens. Service records and original manuals & documentation are included in the purchase. Service records can be delivered digitally or as physical hardcopies at your request.
