This time capsule is fondly named marigold. I bought her a few years ago from a private party who said it was in her family since 1975. Vehicle was originally purchased in Arizona, spent several years in Southern California, then made its way to Ohio where it was stored for 15 years by a family member. The underbody appears to have been undercoated back around 1985 which kept the undercarriage in good shape. A professional shop that specializes in VW bus rebuilds was hired to perform all mechanical system repairs and upgrades to make sure the vehicle was mechanically sound. Most systems were replaced including new brakes, new tires, new gas tank, new sending unit, electronic ignition plus much more. Engine was removed and updated as well.New camper top plus all upholstry is original and still in decent shape. This is a driver and great vehicle for crusin around town or going on an adventure. I removed most of the camper cabinents(yes I still have them) and I put an extra bench seat for additional seating for the family. The original table still folds out in the back. This bus is starting to show its age from a cosmetic standpoint. It could really use some rocker panel work and a paint job is in order soon. I would like her to go to someone who is willing to put the extra cosmetic work to bring the body back to full restoration. I would do it, but wife said not allowed to put any more bucks into her. This is not a perfect Camper, but a heck of a lot of fun that gets a lot of looks(and peace signs). |
