For sale is my 1981 VW Rabbit Diesel. I've owned this car since May 2011 and it has been my daily driver up until 1 and 1/2 years ago. I have purchased a truck and have stored the VW in the garage. The car is in great shape and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country and back. I purchased the vehicle from it's second owner in Amarillo, TX. He was a retired pilot who had a hobby of buying, using, and selling VW rabbits. I drove the car home from Amarillo, TX to Nashville, TN. 1000 miles with no issues. Aside from being my daily driver around town, I have also taken the car on a few road trips, including a 2500mi road trip also with no issues. The car gets great mpg. The best mpg I've seen the car get is 50mpg and the worst I've seen it get is 37mpg. Over the last couple years the car has had new brake pads/rotors, new suspension, and a new headliner. I just had the vehicle tuned up and inspected by a trusted VW mechanic here in town. Also just had brand new tires put on. When I first purchased the car, the hood had light hail damage. I purchased another hood and had it professionally repainted to match the original the best they could. I also had a small trailer hitch installed so I could pull my lawnmower around town. I love this car and would love to keep it but it's time for a new owner.. One who will use it and give it more attention than I do. Below I have a list of PROS and CONS. Most of the cons are easy fixes that I do not have the time or interest to handle at this time. Thank you and happy bidding to all!
PROS:-Runs and drives great-AC blows cold-Heat blows hot-New headliner-never in any accidents-Brakes/rotors replaced within last 2000 miles-Front and rear suspension replaced within last 6000 miles-Updated stereo system-Very strong motor (for 50hp!)-Easy to work on the car at home-The car is a blast to drive. Can't go too long without someone stopping to ask about it-Owners manual intact-Brand new tires with less than 5mi on them
CONS:-Due to the rabbit being 37 years old and my daily driver, the car has accumulated a few small blemishes and dings-The front of the hood has very light ripple dent due to someone sitting on the hood when I was not around. -The rear bumper is not perfectly straight but not easy to notice. I backed into the bumper of my truck at a very slow speed-The front skirt of the car is slightly warped but should be easy to straighten out-The updated stereo needs to be reconnected to speakers-Horn not currently working-Original cigarette lighter is not currently working-Dash lights have a mind of their own. sometimes they will work and sometimes they won't.-Vented windows on most of these old rabbits do not hold so they get put in place by various methods. I use ultra strength adhesive to keep them in place. I just had one vent window replaced and I have added a bit of black electrical tape to help reduce any wind noise when on the interstate.-Hood release lever broke years ago so I keep a pair of pliers in the car to pull the hood release cable with-One of the glow plugs does not function but has never been an issue for me-Timing advance lever does not function but has never been problem when starting
