Car description

Up for auction is my Beautiful and All Original 1959 Volkswagen Beetle with working Semaphores. The color of this Beetle was made by Volkswagen for 1 year only; L14 Mignonette Green. Yes, this immaculate car has all original paint with the exception to the rear fenders which is believed to been repainted many years ago. (The originality of the paint was also confirmed with a paint meter) Originally sold by Eduard Winter Volkswagen Dealer in Berlin, Germany whom sold many cars on the grey market at the time. It is believed that this car may have been purchased by a U.S. Soldier stationed in Germany and Eduard Winter added the DOT required turn signals and bumper over riders for transport back to the U.S. The front turn signals are made by Hella and look like no other. Prior to my purchase, this Beetle was in the same family since 1980 and driven only 9,000 miles to the present date. Kept garaged and meticulously cared for, this Beetle is like a time capsule. It retains the original matching numbers engine, 6 Volt Electrical System and Green - Grey cloth interior in outstanding condition. The interior has the original carpeting and perfect cloth seats stuffed with horsehair. The original Sekurit glass is crystal clear. Everything works on this car, down to the interior convenience light.
The original 36 HP engine runs fantastic, smooth and quiet. The original vacuum advance distributer was replaced with an electronic type. Over the last several years many items have been serviced including a rebuilt fuel pump, new master cylinder, front and rear brakes, new drive belt, oil changes and new battery in 2016. The previous owner kept a detailed log of the miles put on the car along with the amount of gas put in to calculate MPG from 1980 at 77K miles to the year 2000 at 83K miles. The log also indicates maintenance service items that were completed by the owner and new tires that were installed in 1981. The Sears tires from 1981 are still in like-new condition and will come with the car if desired. I have installed brand new Firestone Bias Ply period correct wide white wall tires for that classic look.
With this car being all original, you will see minor flaws such as a ding/small dent in the drivers side front fender, minor touch ups in the paint and metal that has deteriorated on the bottom of the passenger side front fender (picture attached). Paint has faded a bit on the front fenders under the lights (this patina looks fantastic in my opinion). There is a minor crack smaller than the size of a dime on the rear drivers side fender and there are scratches on the wheels. The car has no rust underneath and is completely solid. The interior headliner was also replaced with new.
This is a one of a kind, very rare, highly collectible car and your chance to own a museum piece! (Please Google, "Mignonette Green Beetle Moma" to see a picture of the identical Beetle that was displayed by the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art for several years) There are many Beetles for sale but most have been repainted; you will not find another one like this. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more pictures. Thank you for your interest.
