1967 was a very special year in Beetle production. It is one of the only years of Beetle that is really unique, especially for US destined models! The 1500cc engine was introduced, 12 volt electrics, upright headlights were introduced and fenders were re-designed, totally new shape for the engine lid, the second year for the ball joint front end…the list goes on and on!(Please note, this one we feel was made for the German market as it has very elegant pre-1967 fenders)In 1968 they changed things significantly again, getting rid of thepainted dashboard and the towel rail bumpers and that real "vintage" VW design was gone for good.As a result the 67 has long been a favorite year for VW enthusiasts. The last of the classic style, and the most refined when it comes to performance and handling. This example is truly an excellent one.We are not sure of the vehicle’s original origin but it was lovingly restored in the Richmond, VA area and had a full body off chassis restoration!!!!!!This is not one that has been patched up and built from a pile of parts. It is a car that has been well maintained and protected from the elementsand all of the original details have been painstakingly restored.Restoration work includes:Redone interior, carpet, door panels and canvas top as well. The paint is an original Yukon Yellow and looks gorgeous. Most importantly and a very rare find today, the car is extremely solid and rust freeand appears to have never had any rust repair – apart from floor pan and heater channel replacement. When you start looking close at old VW convertibles out there on the market today, you will realize how rare this is to find! The original 1500cc engine wasreplaced with one from 1969 (Engine Serial Number H5666703). It runsbeautifullyand seems very stock and proper. The air cleaner is the correct dual snorkle modeland everything looks to be in place and well sorted. The dashboard and interior paint has been done to original specifications and looks great. The original style rubber mats are in place and the controls are clean. The carpet was replaced at some point, but with a nice quality kit with the correct cloth bound edges. The original 12 volt electrics was a fantastic upgrade...anyone that has dealt with a 6 volt systemwill agree that 12 volt works better...in fact there are probably more earlier 6 volt model carsout there that have been converted to 12v than ones that have not!The 1967 model has a special window crank...check out the black plastic knob.
On a convertible, there are 4 of them, as the rear windows roll down too!The convertible models came with a locking glove box door from the factory. The dash knobs too are special for 67!The odometer reads 92,205 miles. However, the speedometer was changed at some point in the past, so the actual miles on the car are unknown. The steering wheel and horn ring are in nice shape and are correct original parts.
The radio is a quite rare AM/FM model. This is an earlier in 67 production model as it has the low back front seats.
The later 67's got high-back seats that continued on to the end of production.
However, the cool low-back seats are another classic attribute that this vehicle possesses.Although his car may not be 100% showroom perfect, it shows very little wear and presents itself beautifully!!!The contrasting armrests and doors really stand outand the painted wheels with practically brand new white sidewall tires look stunning!!!The top was redone two to three years ago and it is in excellent condition. Please look at photos. The only blemish is that the driver’s side has two accidental screw perforations where the top was installed by the passenger window. The 67 model engine lid is unique to the year and the convertible modelhad its very own version...this one is complete and correct with the proper rain tray in place. The rear apron is also unique to 67.The bumpers on this car are the correct original German parts. The body is very straight and solid on the car and the proper handles and trim are all in place. The vehicle possesses the correct Karmann body badgeFront end is super straight and panel fit is proper. As mentioned, top looks good, with correct glass rear window with the rubber seal.Bottom line, this car looks as fabulous in person as it does in this listing’s photos. It has negligible chips, scratches and only the minor wear one would expect from a fair weather daily driver. The body of the car is super straight and there are no signs of collision damage, same goes for any rust...this one is as solid as they come! The vehicle start instantly and accelerates and shifts beautifully!!!She is super tight on the road and a wonderful driver. She "feels" like a low mileage car on the road and is really a delightful driver. No wrecks, no rust, and 51 years young! What else could you hope for in a turn key vintage driver, ready to hop in and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
