This listing is for a beautiful 1968 Volkswagen Beetle that has been gone through from top to bottom, and front to back by me. I have been maintaining, preserving, and restoring Volkswagen's for 24 years, and I don't cut corners. This car isn't thrown together with a bunch of crappy aftermarket parts like you see on 90% of the cars for sale, this car was put together with either factory original German parts, or the best quality parts available. I guarantee this car is one of the best driving cars you'll find! The originality of the car was preserved where it was possible, and definitely where it counted. This is an original L41 Gloss Black car with factory red interior, and is the rarest color combination for the year of the car. I have all of the dealership paperwork for the car from 1968, all the way through the late 1980's when the car was parked. I also have the original owners manual, which shows the original engine number, and the white plastic card with the original owners information on it. The car was purchased by the original owner on October 12th, 1967, and then it was sold to a gentleman that worked at the dealership where the car was purchased new. He gave it a sympathetic restoration, which included new paint, all new seals, and a new headliner. The seat covers, door panels, carpet, wiring, the engine, and the transmission are all what the car came with from the factory. He then sold the car to the 3rd owner, who didn't drive the car hardly at all, and then it was sold to me. I received the car and it had a few issues that I had to address. The floor pan wasn't in the greatest shape, so I had to replace it. The brakes were shot and I wanted something a little better than stock, so I added a modified original German front beam that was narrowed 2", I added 2-1/2" drop spindles, zinc plated cross drilled and slotted Porsche patter rotors from Old Speed in Southern California, all new German roller wheel bearings and seals, new front brake calipers, new Teflon lined steel braided brake hoses on all 4 corners, new German ATE rear wheel cylinders, Porsche pattern rear drums, new 4-1/2" chrome Porsche alloy style wheels with new Firestone 135/15 tires up front, and new chrome 6" Porsche pattern style wheels in back with new 195/65 tires in the rear. For the engine, it is the numbers matching 1500cc engine that the car came with when it was new. With only 44,000 original miles, it really didn't need much, so all I did was change every seal on the engine, added a new clutch disc, rear main seal, fully rebuilt the heads with new valves and guides, new spark plugs, new factory style German spark plug wires, a rebuilt original German fuel pump, and a fully restored original German round bowl 30 PICT carburetor from a 1967 Beetle on it because they are far superior to the square bowl carburetor the car came with. This car runs amazing, it's one of the best running cars I've seen and owned, and I work on and restore these cars for a living. The transmission is the original numbers matching transmission that still has the factory 1 piece axle boots, and shifts flawlessly. The rear of the car was lowered 2-3/4" with bolt on drop plates from Dubfab. All of the electrical works just as it should, and the only upgrade there was the addition of Hella H4 flat Euro style headlights. The car also came with an original Sapphire AM radio, which also works perfectly. The car has never been in an accident, it's as straight as can be. As any old car, it isn't a flawless show car, but a very clean and very smooth driving car that I wouldn't hesitate to drive clear across the US.
