Car description |
---|
This Jetta diesel will run on waste vegetableoil with a heated 6 gallon tank in the trunk and a heated Dayco fuel filter. The fuel line going from the trunk to the engine is a hose-in-hose heated fuel line.
Under the hood is a 6 ported fuel switch that is wired to a switch on the dash. The fittings under the hood allow for a threaded temperature gauge to be installed and displayed on the dash (not installed or included).
There is a separate fuel pump installed only in the vegetable oil system to recirculate the oil through the system.
To run the car on vegetable oil you:1 start the car on diesel2 flip the red switch on the dash to circulate the vegetable oil3 wait for the engine coolant to heat up the vegetable oil4 flip the silver switch on the dash to provide vegetable oil to the engine5 flip the red switch to turn off the fuel pump circulating vegetable oil6 ~3 minutes before you shut off the engine flip the silver switch back to provide diesel fuel to the engine.
Other work done that I can remember:~150,000 - timing belt replaced~205,000 - replaced front and rear suspension with lowered springs and re-buildable racing shocks from a VW Golf~175,000 replaced engine mount~200,000 replaced 2 glow plugs (couldn't reach the other 2)Tires have about 5000-10000 miles left on themK&N air filter
I have done all of this work myself and can answer any questions you have.
Car does have A/C, but it does not work.
Aftermarket CD player installed and works
The car also comes with tools to replace timing belt on a TDI.
Also comes with an IDI injection pump tuning gauge, spare parts, service manual, an extra full size tire and rim in addition to the spare tire.
The fuel system has an air leak, so the fuel drains back to the tank if it has not run in about 4 days. This makes it hard to start and will take a few times cranking it to turn over.
I parked the car in 2015 to fix a broken coolant hose and have not moved it since.
It does run and drive, but there is a significant fuel leak from the injection pump. Most likely gasket/o-ring dry rot from not being kept in diesel fuel. A injection pump rebuild should fix this. I was quoted $700 from a local repair shop to rebuild the pump.
This is a project car and does need some work. If you are willing to replace some of the hoses under the hood and put in some work, it could be a daily driver.
Additional photos or video of the leak available upon request.

You can see it in the pictures, but I though I needed to mention that the windshield has a crack in it.
