Car description |
---|
Selling this well kept and well preserved 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon, GL, Westfalia, full camper. It has just be repainted in it's factory color of white due to fade and clearcoat peeling. It has OVER 23K in receipts. The previous owner just loved this old girl to death. Fridge has been removed for additional storage. One can be reinstalled if the new owner desires. They never worked good in the beginning. It has had "open checkbook" maintenance and upgrades. Here is the itemized list:
* Engine is EFI (not carbureted) : Always starts up on those 'cold' CA mornings.
* Water cooled.
* 4-speed manual.
* 4-wheel powered disk brakes.
* Power steering.
* Sleeps 4: 2 on top when popped, and two on the bottom with the seats folded down.
Major Van upgrades and improvements:
* Immediately after purchase I had a new engine by GoWesty installed by The Car Clinic in Mountain View, after the old engine had a meltdown...
** The new engine is a high-performance 2.3L 4-cylinder boxter (an original Vanagon engine that GoWesty upgrades), puts out 115hp & 145 ft/lb torque.
** For comparison, stock engine (in good running condition) is 2.1L, 90hp/117 ft/lb torque. A 30 year old stock engine probably isn't putting out that much power.
** 75 on the freeway? No problem. Accelerate uphill? No problem. Stock engines: go see for yourself, not remotely the same.
** New engine has 33k miles on it over the past 13 years. Low.
* 5th person removable jump-seat.
* Windows tinted.
* GoWesty Wheel Package, 16x7.5" : So much better handling over stock. New tires put on in 2016, still great shape.
* New clutch in 2017.
* New Alternator.
* New water pump.
* New Rack & Pinion & upper ball joints.
* New top tent, in great shape, screens have no holes.
* New windwhield.
* New master cylinder.
* 3-point seat-belts on all seats (all rear seats are only belt stock).
* Custom carpet for the driver and passenger areas: Nothing wrong with the old carpet other than being old. Plus you can remove the rear carpet and the whole floor is rubberized, making it easy to sweep out that sandy day at the beach.
* CD player / stereo.
* Adjustable roof rack.* And many other small parts. I'm running out of things to fix/replace on it. Which is good news for you.
Extras:
* I have the kit to install the 2nd battery backup (usually used while camping), but never hooked it up.
* Original roadside hazard kit. Retro cool.
* Bug-nets for the mid-windows, top-window, including custom net for the rear hatch: Leave you hatch completely open, but no bugs can get in.
* Rear-hatch lock, that allows you to leave it cracked open a few inches while camping to the let the air in, but the critters(or humans) out.* Owner's manuals and supplemental manuals.
