1973 VW Campmobile

Model: type 2 westfalia wedge top camper van/bus

Year: 1973

Odometer: 07502 (will go up)

Make: Volkswagen

4 cylinder, 4 speed manual transmission, rear wheel drive. Hard wedge fiberglass top with canvas (canvas will need replaced). Van sleeps 3-4? total.

Body: pretty solid in most places with surface rust in places and rotted holes in the usual places (see pictures). Missing VW emblem in front, side markers are cracked and/or missing.

Undercarriage: floors, frame, frame mounts are all solid and appear to be original. Battery tray is rusted through in places.

Interior: in need of full restoration. The front seats are ripped/torn and need replaced or recovered. All other seat cushions are dated and show wear but overall in fair shape with the exception of the rear cushion that is missing. The sink and fridge are intact but unknown condition. Many cabinet handles are broken or missing.

Paint: looks oxidized/dull. Surface rust in multiple locations, rusted through with rotted metal near wheels.

Tires: 75 percent tread but dry rotted and need to be replaced.

Engine: 1.7 liter 4cylinder. Oil changed 12-5-2017. Battery is new as of 12-10-2017. Starts right up and runs decent, will need a tune up. It has a high idle which may be caused by choke not working correctly? Clutch feels good, transmission shifts as it should uncluding reverse. It does run, drive and steer as it should but only has front brakes. You will need to have the brakes inspected and repaired by a qualified repair shop for safety. It does have new master cylinder and new front calipers but they dont work well.

Wedge top works properly and stays up. Canvas needs replaced, bunkbed canvas is torn and needs replaced.

All glass/windows are solid and in good shape.

Back door won't open due to key mechanism and/or latch (should be an easy fix). Driver, passenger and side slider work as they should. The engine hatch lid has a broken hinge but still opens and closes, it has a little trouble staying up in propped position. Has factory A/C, but needs remounted as the mounts have broken free from dash in places. Unknown if A/C works.

This vehicle will have to be trailered and not driven on city streets or highways until all systems have been serviced by a professional. Local pick up, bring a trailer and tie downs. I can help load.
