Car description |
---|
Almost a barn-find, this bug has been living in an airplane hangar for about eight years. The pilot bought it as a running driving car and fixed it up to be his daughter's first car, but she had other ideas. We put a new battery and fresh fuel in it, a new master cylinder and hoses, starter, tires, and it is again a running car. It's a pretty straight beetle with no rust, except the floor pans have been replaced, probably because of a leaky top, not so uncommon a problem with vintage convertibles, I guess.
Other than the non-stock wheels, it looks pretty original. Nothing about it is really bad, and not a single thing about it is perfect. The paint is not embarrassing, but not very good either. The wiring has not been all buggered-up, but all kinds of things don't work and need sorting out. The upholstery is very nice, and the door panels too. The carpets are new, but other trim is rough around the edges. The top is OK but the back window is yellow and the stitching coming undone, and there are pinholes where the hinges pinch it.
I listed the mileage as "unknown" but eBay won't have it. So the actual odometer reading is listed, but don't believe it is correct for a moment, please. At over 46 years old it could be real (yeah, right), it could be turned over once or more, or it could be a speedo from another car. Realistically, the mileage at this point in it's life is about as important as the number of gallons of fuel in the tank when you pick it up.
It is air-cooled, of course, and has a carburettor instead of fuel-injection, so it's pretty basic to work on. While not recommended as your kid's first car, or your partner's reliable ride to work, if you want to keep them that is, a little love would go a long way toward making this collectible Karmann-body VW your weekend runabout roadster this spring.
Of course, please email any questions and resolve any concerns you have before bidding. Thanks!!!
