Beautiful Classic Beetle Volkswagen Convertible. No Reserve!!!!
We gave this car to our son a few years ago. He decided to join the Air Force and is hardly ever home. He decided to sell it as he is being deployed once again and has no extra time for the car. We have owned it for approximately 10 years and the title is still in our name. The following is a list of almost $4000 our son spent on new parts and some outside labor. All parts are new or NOS or rebuilt or in some cases he bought good used original parts.
Starting at the front of the car:
Triple chrome plated front and rear bumpers, early aprons 1958-1967 style, a german reproduction hood, a new set of early style wider chrome body side mouldings including running boards with matching wide trim, early VW hood handle and hood latch, a new hood opening cable assembly with large round ivory pull knob, a Wolfsburg crest hood emblem, and a new set of early style glass covered headlights, a set of working early fender turn signal lights on top of each fender, new ivory dash grab handle, a new gas tank, gas tank sending unit, and a new gas gauge vibrator, has a reproduction tool kit under the hood as well as original jack. It has 4 brand new original size tires 165-80R-15 which is the correct size as original vw in radial type and a set of hub caps and beauty rings. One of the hub caps has a thumb size dent.
It has reproduction Karmann badge, new replacement windshield glass with new rubber, new interior mirror, all knobs, new steering wheel with horn ring and Wolfsburg crest horn button, new sun visors and hold down clips, along with a new set of chrome visor brackets. The locking top handles are original. The top and headliner and carpets and complete interior are new from TMI interiors. It also had new top wood bows and other top parts and hardware installed. New radio antenna but no radio is included, new outside door handles with keys, new wing vent locks, new interior door handles and all new window crank handles, wing vent glass on one side is replacement glass and the other is original. All other side glass and the back window assembly are original . New red seat belts with Wolfsburg crest, new working cigarette lighter with ivory knob. Lots of new rubber parts all over car, left side mirror is 1968 but our son was going to put a pair of early hinge mount mirrors on the car but time ran out. New E brake handle vinyl cover, all new door panel clips and rubber seals, new door escutcheons, new fuse panel with all new fuses and cover, new rubber pedal pads, rubber shift boot cover, new ABS glove box, new ash tray cover plate, new under hood instrument cover, mud flaps, new fender gravel shields on front fenders only.
The engine is a "1600cc" single port that has 14,000 miles on it at this time (1966 F case bored to take 85.5mm) Rebuilt with German bearings, Mexican OEM pistons and heads, balanced to .5 grams. It has a new fuel pump, carburetor, electronic distributor with matching coil, new Bosch spark plugs, plug wires, new German muffler, new starter, battery cables, really nice air cleaner but don't know the year of it, new clutch assembly, complete brake overhaul including all new wheel cylinders, master cylinder, quality brake shoes, spring kits, flex rubber hose lines, 2 new brake light switches. It has a new chrome engine deck lid spring, fresh air hoses, new firewall insulation tarboard and interior floor insulation pads under all carpet.
Here is a list of things our boy did not get completed.
All side glass needs to go to a glass shop to install and or repair it. Both back quarter glasses do not roll up and down without a problem. Front drivers door glass needs a piece of angle,(missing), to support it at rear of window so that it rolls up and down nicely. Both vent windows need top pivot points so that they open and close correctly. Vent glass needs the new rubber installed. All glass on sides need to be aligned properly........ Minor engine oil leak. Don't know where it leaks from. Needs radio and speaker. Has used wiper motor in a box but no wiper arms or wiper parts. It has front and rear sway bars brand new in a box that need to be installed. Needs spare tire and wheel. Needs front shocks replaced. Nothing major is wrong but the car just needs finishing. Has new engine seal but our son told us the engine had to come out to install it correctly and he had no time. I tried to fit it in but it is not right. That's the kind of things the car needs, nothing major.... The hood latch needs installed and made to shut and lock down before you get on the freeway. Jump in it and drive it anywhere. We drive it around our mobile home park daily and everyone loves to stop you to talk about the car. Its a real attention getter. As parents we are proud of our son and wanted him to keep the car we gave him, but he is right about it just sitting around for the next several years. I am pretty sure he wants to buy a motorcycle with part of the money from the car because he can ship it a lot easier then a car or truck to almost anywhere the Air Force decides to send him......
Shipping anywhere in California or Oregon will be free after paid in full according to auction terms.... Shipping anywhere else is up tothe buyer.....We can deliver to any overseas shipping warehouse in California at no charge if someone from overseas wants to purchase the car.
Thank you for looking and if you should need more information or just have a question please give me a call or text. Bob 541-592-9046.
