1971 Volkswagen Westfalia has won trophy award at Englishtown NJ VW & Audi Show and Go 2016, for all original!I am the 3rd owner. The car has only lived in Pennsylvania and would take trips with families. 1st owner bought it new and took it to Mexico on a road trip and small trips, the 2nd owner had it for 30+ years and would take his family camping, garage kept and would take it out for a spin around town. We have taken it camping multiple times and is a daily driver. I drive it around town all the time in spring, summer and fall.
I have owned bus for 3+ years.
Main roller Door does NOT open, Roller on door needs repair, seems to be off track, we do not open and close at all so we do not cause damage, seems to be a simple repair.
Comes with working original child cot across driver and passenger seats.
Frequent questions answered below:
Have you had any overheating issues with the engine? Never had an issue
Is this a Weekender or Full Camper? Weekender
How long has the roller been broken? Since December, we have not opened or closed since because we do want to cause damage.
In terms of rust see below all places that are answered.
Along the edges of the roof where it slopes down to meet the rain gutter (especially on the passenger's side) See attached, surface rust on front both passenger and driver side NO rust in gutter that runs the length of the bus on both sides.
The battery tray under the battery (on the passenger's side of the engine compartment) Check the underside of this tray too, by crawling under the bus. Undercoated for protection from the 70's, see attached pictures.
In the cargo floor Along the edges, especially behind the front seats (just behind the bulkhead wall) NO RUST See attached.
Along the bottom edges of the doors; especially the front cab doors - see attached. Barely surface rust.
In the front floor where the driver's feet rest and where the passenger's feet rest. NO rust - see attached.
In the "dog legs" (the sloping part of the bottom of the front door openings, above the wheel openings) surface small surface rust in spots, see attached
In the curved rocker panel that runs all along the bottom of the bus, on both sides Surface rust on edge on panel but NO rust underneath.
On the front of the bus just below the bottom edge of the windshield rubber. Rust under this rubber seal can also cause rust stains on the inside that run down onto the dashboard or into the package tray beneath the dash -NO rust see attached.
On the nose of the bus just below the headlight trim rings - NO rust see attached on left on right 2 spots of surface just to left of headlight the size of a pencil eraser.
On the nose of the bus, just above the small horizontal shelf seam that runs across the nose, behind the bumper. Valance panel that runs below this seam, behind the bumper. Barely surface rust.
