GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1973 Volkswagen Thing for purchase. Originally developed for the West German Army the Type 181 was also sold to the public as the Kurierwagen in West Germany the Trekker (RHD Type 182) in the United Kingdom the Thing in the United States (1973â€"74) the Safari in Mexico and South America and Pescaccia in Italy. Civilian sales ended after model year 1980. The Thing was then marketed to Americans boasting about its off-road capabilities which wasn't very... convincing to buyers here. The Thing did capture the desire from buyers as a quirky import that very few other people had. Today its retro and unique look screams summer beach cruiser and its rarity makes it a really cool collector's item. This '73 VW Thing in Sunflower Yellow was imported and rarely used. Only seeing time on the road as a fair-weather summer cruiser. It is powered by the original 1.6L flat 4-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. It featured bucket seats am/fm radio soft convertible top and more. This model as North American models were was built in the Puebla Mexico plant and then imported in to Michigan. When someone is looking for a Thing that is a highly original example this beauty is the one to find! Please call or email for more details!
