1977 Volkswagen Bus Type 2 Transporter
I bought this bus to use parts, especially seats, for a 1972 VW bus we are restoring. Alas, the front and rear seat do not interchange however I can make the short seat work and it is not included in auction. I will try to describe this VW bus to the best of my ability. I have too many projects and this bus is good enough to restore if you have the mechanical knowledge.
Clear Missouri title in my name. NO RESERVE. You win bid and it is yours.
Better than average body with minimal areas rusted through. Some rust through near rocker at driver’s door and under driver’s feet near seat. Surface rust only on roof with good, solid drip rails. Some light surface rust in other areas. Should clean up nice.
1. A couple of bruises on the driver side body. One is down low and the others on the body panel. Picture should show extent. Again, nothing overwhelming.
2. A couple of dents on top that should pop out. I was going to do it but didn’t want to tear the headliner.
3. Headliner needs cleaned and has a few small cuts but is otherwise tight. I wiped the interior on a hot, humid, Missouri day with bleach water and didn’t spend as much time as I could have cleaning mildew. What I did spend time on cleaned up rather easily. It will just take some time and elbow grease.
4. Bumpers both have issues but a good body person with a torch could make them look a lot better.
5. All glass is good with the exception of the windshield (cracked)
6. Front doors open and close very well. Passenger seat and bench seat are in good condition. Vinyl is showing some age but still in decent shape for a 40 year old VW Bus.
7. Driver seat is ripped of course but useable.
8. Mechanical. NO ENGINE, NO TRANSAXLE. Bus was originally set up as a factory automatic. Not sure if linkage is there or not. I will check if requested.
9. Factory AC but the plastic housing around the AC unit broke at some point. Internals appear to be there, unfortunately it is just hanging.
10. Cargo door opens fine but needs a little assistance. Nothing appears to be bent. Just contrary.
11. Rear engine hatch is missing the 1/4” rod that serves as the door hinge. Simple fix.
12. Rear door needs the top hinges adjusted in order to seal properly and open/close correctly. Nothing appears to be bent. I will try to fix this before it is picked up if I can.
13. Rims are good. Tires are dry rotted but hold air for several days. This bus will need to be trailered home. I will gladly assist new owner with loading.
Remember this is a 40 year old VW bus without an engine or transaxle. Steers and rolls. Good candidate for restoration. NO WARRANTY.
Think outside the box. There are some very cool, creative things being done with these old VW buses. Slice it down the middle and make two large bookshelves or business signs. Use it for a business sign. Make a cool bed out of the body. Forget the mechanical fixing, mount it on a trailer frame, install a personalized camper interior, and have an awesome “VW camper” at a fraction of the cost.
NO SCAMS. I've heard them all. I'm honest and I expect you to be the same.
PayPal deposit of $500 due within 48 hours at completion of auction. Full balance due in PayPal prior to pick up.
Shipping is not available. I can store outside for up to three months pending communication.
Starting bid is $1000. I think that is a fair place to start and it should be worth that at the minimum.
