Car description

True 1971 Karmann Ghia barn find. This one was found in a barn in rural Utah after sitting for roughly 20 years. It was running when it was parked, but the clutch was starting to slip a little. I want to be honest. The body is pretty ugly, but also pretty straight. The drivers side door looks as if it was over extended at some point and made contact with the front fender... So there is some filler there. Other than that, the rocker panels, rear quarters and the passenger side floor boards have some rust but all-in-all its in pretty good condition for its age. The nature of the rocker panels, rear quarters and floorboards are almost always to be expected on any of the Ghia's that have ever seen water because of the body design, but because the structural integrity of these cars are in the hump, none of those issues are anything that can't be dealt with cheaply and fairly easily, as the panels can be purchased from many sources. But at this point all of that is kind of just extra, because I'm getting down close to the value of just the glass, seats, engine and tranny on this car. It was registered and driven until 1998 when the previous owner graduated college, got married and bought something modern. At some point in the first year that it was parked, the owner started sanding it down to look for body filler and signs of any accidents (nothing seems to have been found in the accident department, but there is a bit of filler here and there). He was also trying to find the original color (yellow), but that's about as far as hewent with it. the front clip was sanded to bare metal, so it has surface rust covering that area. luckily it was parked inside and it didn't turn into cancer. The car is probably about 99% complete. The engine turns freely by hand and the transmission seems to be in working order. The front seats will probably need to be recovered but the rear seats are in very nice condition. All of the glass is good. This car will make a good project or a very good parts car. As mentioned, it comes with a few boxes of random spares such as new door hinges, wing window, antenna, spare headlights, bezels etc.. The car will need some TLC. but anyone with a little knowledge of type 1 VW's (or vintage VW's in general) knows that a little can go a long way... and the prices and collectability on these cars just seem to keep going up. So, to get a good cheap project car to start with is the key to getting things rolling. I feel like that is what this car is. Feel to ask me any questions that you may have. It DOES NOT come with the old steel wheels, but DOES COME WITH aftermarket wheels pictured in the photos of the car. They are not the type of wheels that needed spacers to fit the car, but these are wheels that were actually designed by American Wheel specifically for Volkswagens of these years. It does, however, come with the original steel wheel and spare tire. Again, no reserve on this auction. Title is included along with the original keys. buyer is responsible for pickup and any fees involved with pickup of the vehicle. But, I will be happy to help load transport, if needed. If it doesn't sell on eBay this time around, I will not relist it.... Thanks for looking. Happy bidding. Side note: I do have it listed locally. So I reserve the right to stop the auction at any time.
