Looking for a cute classic car that is sure to please anyone? MotoeXotica... Classic Cars is pleased to present this 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible. Made in July 1978 at the Karmann factory in Osnabrück, West Germany, this example is one of the last 1978 models. It has been lovingly cared for by the same owner for the last 12 years!
Finished in Mars Red, the paint and exterior trim are in overall very good condition, but there are blemishes visible on the trunk and the edge of the hood near the latch. The windows are clear and intact and the backlight has a rear defroster grid, while the lights are intact and haze-free. The headlights are even hooded. This Super Beetle rolls on radials, sized 165R15, surrounding standard factory vented wheels. All of the body panels are straight and solid though the roof has a patch just beneath the rear window that is only visible when the top is up. The cargo area is in good order, the engine bay is very tidy and the bumpers look good.
Under that rear hood is a rebuilt 1600cc fuel-injected flat four-cylinder engine mated to a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission as stated by the previous owner.
Inside, the newly reupholstered black seats are in near-excellent condition, the matching carpet looks very good, as does the one-piece instrument panel with its VDO gauges. The original, four-spoke steering wheel is present and the inner door panels feature flexible map pockets for small-item storage. Addition storage is available in the cubbies clustered around the shifter and center console. The mirror glass, console and shifter all look good. Completing this interior is a Clarion AM/FM stereo.
Closed-car competition to this Volkswagen in 1978 included Buick’s Skyhawk, Chevrolet’s Monza, Dodge’s Colt, Ford’s Pinto and Mustang II, Honda’s Civic, Nissan’s 210, Oldsmobile’s Starfire, Plymouth’s Sapporo, Pontiac’s Sunbird and Toyota’s Corolla.
This Volkswagen is an ideal summer cruise car, especially with a fuel-injected motor; just flip the top back and go! Late ‘70s VW Super Beetle Convertibles are rare and this car would turn heads at any cruise night or weekend cruise event. People would likely pepper you with their own VW Bug tales. Take this cute bug home today!
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 89,733 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
