Car description |
---|
For sale is our Limited Edition 1974 Volkswagen Sun Bug Convertible. Several sources indicate only 300 of these vehicles were produced making it one of the rarest and most collectible of all Volkswagens.
The seller has owned this Sun Bug for nearly 40 years.
This vehicle won a coveted Celebrity Choice Award at the Mid America Funfest for Air-Cooled VW. This is a premiere gathering of VWs in the United States and is held at Mid America's facility in Effingham, Illinois and attended by hundreds of VW owners. Mid America Motorworks was the source of many of our restoration parts. It recently won the Most Unique Award at a local car show.
While the owner has gone to considerable effort to maintain an original exterior of this Sun Bug, the interior has undergone complete change in upholstery.
The color Hellas Beige (L98C-W4) was marked inside the front bonnet and that was the color used to repaint it.
The engine was professionally rebuilt about 6,000 miles ago. At that time the clutch and its associated parts were also replaced. The engine and engine compartment area remain mostly stock. Listed mileage is not actual mileage as odometer was replaced at time of engine rebuild.
A new canvas top and headliner was replaced, however, it was left under a car cover for too long following a rainstorm allowing mold to form on the canvas top. The headliner looks new.
All glass and mirrors in the vehicle are good.
Restoration/preventative maintenance over the years has resulted in replacement of many parts too numerous to list here. We installed new fenders with new welting, bonnet seals, running boards, and "chrome" trim. We installed new windshield with gasket, tailpipes, radio antenna, front and rear plastic light lens. Note the windshield gasket isn't exactly like the original equipment lacking the "chrome" trim.
Rims were repainted using Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating. It matches the original color very well. New radial tires with the appropriate ¾-inch whitewall are installed (see advertising photo).
Many front end parts including bushings, gas-charged struts, ball joints, steering dampers, etc. have been recently replaced
No attempt has been made to restore the underside. The front floor pans were professionally replaced while the rear floor pans have been "patched."
A safety feature required by the govt. preventing the vehicle's engine from starting has been bypassed
NADA Classic Cars Volkswagen Super Beetle 2-Door Convertible lists (at time of this listing) Average Retail $15,400 and High Retail at $27,800. We believe the condition of this vehicle warrants the listing price.
You are welcome to come view and drive the vehicle prior to purchase. Note that the vehicle has a manual transmission. Questions will be answered promptly.
The vehicle is kept garaged but is 40 years old and has expected age-related minor flaws.
North Carolina title is free and clear and in my name.
