1987 VW Syncro 4-WD “AdventureWagen” High-top Camper
This is a fully self-contained overland adventure home-base that can handle some pretty serious terrain with ease. Has a full-time 4-wheel drive with locking hubs and a way-down-low “granny” gear that’ll flat get you up/down the grade (his running gear is based upon the Pinzgauer Austrian military crawler made by Steyr-Daimler-Puch. The engine was just completely rebuilt (about 500 miles ago) with brand new heads, rings, bearings, seals, oil pump, water pump, new clutch, new power steering hoses, and a whole lot of new engine stuff (got receipts you can review). This has about 144.8k miles on the chassis, but recently replaced front axles, CV boot covers, and good 16” all-terrain tires. Big-tube bumpers fore & aft w/2”hitch receiver built right in, and Big LT side Mirrors . This is road-ready & trail worthy for a long time to come. As a camper this comes fully equipped with sleeping for two on thick foam mattresses in the overhead loft (fits two smaller folks who like each other, or one larger guy/gal) and a full width bench seat/sofa, a thermostatically controlled 12,000 btu propane furnace, a twin-burner propane stove, an AC/DC Norcold refrigerator (w/freezer), 110vAC hook-up, a 12v deep-cycle auxiliary battery system (lights/fridge..), this has a 13-gallon fresh-water storage tank (a steel one!) with an electric pump and a stainless-steel sink with valve-controlled spigot (just like at home), and a 13-gallon grey-water storage tank. This has a got 72-76 inches of stand-up headroom, and multiple screened window vents for flow-thru air, a large interior enclosed storage area above the cab, a removable sunroof (with interior cover), numerous interior DC lights, a hanging-clothes closet, a pantry, a medicine cabinet, a large dining table and a two smaller handy-tables that all fold flat out of the way. Just finished having the 3.4 gal on-board propane tank valves completely replaced. This has a large cargo area above the engine and an adjustable platform behind the bench seat for flexible storage.
