MotoeXotica Classic Cars rarely says "one of a kind", but there just can't be another 1969 Volkswagen Double Cab pickup like this one! This car was named "Rusty Dub Garage", and it is the epitome of the Rat Rod VW truck culture!
A rat rod is a style of hot rod or custom car that in most cases, imitates or exaggerates the early hot rods of the 1940s, 1950s, and early-1960s. The style is not to be confused with the somewhat closely related "traditional" hot rod, which is an accurate re-creation or period-correct restoration of a hot rod from the same era.
Finished in media blasted and acid wash Patina, this pickup shows exactly how you would expect a rat rod too. To break-up the patina finish there is a elaborate period mint green and tan pinstripe treatment by one of the most renowned painters around, "SickBoss" himself! The headlights and turn-signals blend well with the exterior. The tail lights and back-up lights are flush with the rear valance and in good condition. The rear engine cover has been removed to expose the beautiful 1.6 liter flat 4 cylinder. The safari style roof rack fits snug with correct appearance functions as designed. The nickel-free front and rear bumpers fit well and continue the rat rod look as designed.
Inside, the interior is a vision of understatements, but it works well with the exterior! The black vinyl new front seats have an excellent support and are very comfortable. The black floor mat, matching black door panels, with black vinyl covered dashboard is a continuation of the interior and continues the theme. All the original VDO equipment gauges are in place and have correct appearance, however, the speedometer, fuel gauge, blinkers and windshield wipers are inoperable. This example is also equipped with a original Volkswagen steering wheel (the horn is inoperable) and upgraded Panasonic MXE CD receiver head unit.
This '69 Double Cab is equipped with a chrome accessorized, horizontally opposed, overhead-valve, 1.6 liter air-cooled four-cylinder engine is fed by single Solex downdraft carburetor. Power is transferred to the wheels by a 4-speed manual transmission. Driver assist features include front and rear hydraulic drum brakes. This VW rides on a custom fully adjustable suspension and benefits from a free flowing custom side winder custom exhaust. The 14-inch Mint Green steel wheels (that match the pinstripes) and smooth centered VW trim caps equipped with wide whitewall tires complete the look.
This attention grabbing Volkswagen custom rat rod pickup makes a statement in a crowd with its unique design, and it's distinct exhaust note!... GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
