Car description |

I am selling my race car Bug. It is one of a kind and has been fully caged and converted to all-wheel drive. This is the Bug formerly known as the "Davesport" Bug. When I bought this Bug it had a Type 1 engine in it but it wasn't well suited for this car so I sold it. Originally this car had a 2.8L Type 4 turbo with a Holley 4 barrel draw through. I fully anticipated doing a Subaru 2.5 turbo conversion. I haven't gotten around to it for quite some time and have decided to pass it on. I am hoping to find it a new home where it will be well taken care of. Vehicle is geared to do 120mph in the top of 4th. The following is what I know about the vehicle.
All-Wheel Drive System
Early Saab front A arm's with suspension limiting strapsRack and pinion steering, looks like early Saab tooIn-board coil-oversDatsun Z car rear differential flipped upside down up front (I believe it is 4.87 ratio)Custom output shaft comming out of the 5-rib transmission 4.86 ratioCorresponding custom aluminum front transmission nose sectionSlip-yoke between front seats with a little button to slide into 2wd or 4wd (car must be stopped)CV joint style driveshaft going through the tunnelShift rod above the tunnelCustom Ghia style 4-wheel disk brake conversion
Rear suspension
Rear IRS section out of some other car, not sure what kind of carCoil-Overs5-rib transmission, input shaft was cut down and early throw-out shaft installed for Type 1 motorPoor man's Posi (shimmed out diff)Suspension limiting straps
Body
Fiberglass one-piece flip front endMetal rear fendersQuick release door hinge pinsGlass quarter windows and windshield, plastic rear and door windowsHas a roof patch on passenger side because race carElectrical is sketchyNo speedometer just a huge tachFuel Safe fuel cellFire extinguisher mounted on each floorboardNice racing style front seats5-point seatbelts, expiredMap light and old school Sparco map penDriver's side-view mirror broke at the base
Extra Parts
Rear bumperFront skid plates and rubber guardsBin of rotors and extra A-armsBin of axle shafts
Here's the nitty gritty about this whole deal. This Bug was built sometime in the 1980's by a man named Dave up in the Pacific Northwest. He got a New Beetle in 1998, promptly converted it to AWD and was going to get sponsors etc. until he wrecked it. Before he wrecked the New Beetle, he sold the old Bug chassis and body for $4k and the engine separately for $4k. This is that Bug. When I got it, it came with a title which the seller had me sign. Where I was living at the time, in Colorado, they require 2 VIN numbers for a verification. This Bug only has one VIN plate, in the door jamb. Because of this I could never get the title sorted out and the Bug will be sold with NO TITLE. As a race car, this should not be any problem for the new owner. I will leave the VIN plate on the door, but it is honestly for a 1966 Bug and this is obviously a 68-70 judging by the steering column mount which is original to this car. I do have the SCCA book but it is still in Colorado and will be mailed FedEx to the new owner ASAP. SCCA # is 273039 which is stamped on the cage. This is a nice Bug but it needs work, and obviously an engine. I am selling this Bug to help fund finishing moving the rest of my belongings down from Colorado to Texas. I might regret it but I hope to find it a new owner who will be able to take care of it!!
I am located in Cypress, Texas a suburb of Houston, Texas. Vehicle can be viewed by appointment. I reserve the right to end this auction if the vehicle is sold privately. I can be contacted at 713-791-8371 to setup a viewing or for any questions you may have. I will work with your shipping arrangements, like setting a time for the vehicle to be picked up and helping with loading it in any way that I can. The wheel dollies do not come with the vehicle.
Thanks for taking the time to read, and please only bid if you are serious!!
