For sale is a Cal Look VW Beetle, model year 1973. This car has had many modifications done. All the fenders and exterior lights were replaced with Pre-67 early Beetle parts to give it the look of an earlier car. What's good is that this car has the late model IRS rear suspension and a ball joint front end for a much better ride. The front suspension has a lowered and narrowed adjustable front beam with disc brakes installed. The rear has had the bushings replaced with urethane components and the rear torsion bars are a lot larger diameter which stiffens up the suspension a bit. Also added to the rear is a heavy duty engine mount traction bar. This car was originally from Las Vegas, NV and then shipped to me, so there is no rust or panel patches on this chassis or bodywork...even under the battery! Also no accidents to the body all around. The headlights are Harley-Davidson reflector halogen type lamps. I had the car painted the original robin egg blue color (was an inexpensive paint job) and it looks OK, but certainly not show car quality. I added the Britax sunroof as it looks very similar to the early OE Beetle rag top. A combination shift light/ tachometer has been added to the top of the hood to monitor engine RPM. The hood release has been moved from inside the glove box to the inner passenger fender well (more reliable/ easier to get to). Nardi Steering wheel. The majority of the cost of this car is in the engine compartment. The engine is well built 2180cc with an Engle cam, forged crankshaft and all heavy duty internals. Heads are the usual 35 x 40mm with the cast opened up ports to allow better airflow. As shown in the pictures, the carburetors are dual 48MM IDA's with the third progression hole added for better running on the street and they're mountedon short manifolds with Ram-Flow air filters. The alternator and fan/ housing are Porsche 911 parts and the shroud is a custom fiberglass unit purchased years ago. The muffler is a Vance & Hines aluminum cannister. The transmission has a new Super Diff and is geared as a freeway flyer (transmission built by Prospect hill Performance). The only performance issue I've had with this car is the transmission being a little difficult to downshift from second to first occasionally......(syncro going maybe?) All the CV joints were new when installed by me when I put the car together (about 5 years ago). The engine also has an external oil cooler with a thermostat/ fan and an external oi filter. An electric fuel pump feeds the IDA carburetors. Mileage on the speedo/odometer is not actual vehicle mileage as speedo was replaced with a used 150 MPH unit. The wheels are 4 bolt Porsche 914 alloy replicas. I've only put about 2K miles on this car since I built it (attending two or three car shows a year, usually). The interior of the car has a pair of RCI Racing molded racing buckets with new seat covers installed. Also has a center console with gauges to monitor the engine (one of gauge lights is out). The headliner could or maybe should be replaced.......it's got some wrinkles that need fixing at least (see pics). The back seat has been removed and replaced with an MTX amplifier and a set of sub-woofers. Under the hood in the front of the car is a matching MTX amplifier driving the two door speakers. The stereo is a JVC Am/FM CD unit. this car starts and runs great. Plenty fast enough for me, that's for sure. Anyway, check out the pictures and ask questions if you have them. The car will be available for inspection or viewing pretty much any time. Car is sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied. Please come and check out the car prior to bidding if you can. Shipping or pick-up/delivery of this vehicle is buyer's responsibility although I'll help set this up if I can.
