This auction is for a very nice 1968 Type 1 VW Beetle with Baja kit, that has been restored.
Here's a little bit of history: I was told from the couple I bought itfrom they bought thecar in Arizona near California and their intent was to completely restore it.He started the tear down, had it stripped, then some body work and painting wasdone. After painting the car was stored in their garage for 3+ years, covered up.He was never able to find the time to put the bug back together and he put it up for sale.
I found itonline and bought it as a basket case. I went through the parts that came with it,kept andrestored what could be restored and ordered the rest. The car it self was in good shapefor it's age, floor panwas in great shape. The body was not removed from the pan. From what I couldsee, there was some very lightrust but no damage or rot. The VW came with a rebuilt trans axle andall new bushings.
After that, I stripped and replaced the interior, carpet, headliner. Iinstalled one piece window kits, new doorpanels and hardware.A 1600 dual portcame with it, but needed to be rebuilt. So, I tore it all down and made afew highperformance up grades such as, Ireplaced all seals, new 88 mm pistons and jugs, .010 -.010 69 mm crankshaft, changed the cam to a .476 lift.274 duration 108 degree from Empi, Oil pump with spin on filter for extra protection. Also installed dual 34 mmCarbs by Empi.Installed the fenders, hood and back piece.Stripped everything and painted some partslike the engine cage, front guard and suspension parts.Went through the break system.Added Nerfbars, lights and raised the rearsuspension by torsion bar adjustment, bought 4 new tires and reassembledthe whole car.
Pictures were taken by me through the build and a file of them will be given to the winner/buyer of the bug. Also, being offered with the car area set of 8 spoke off road rims that need to be stripped and repainted,a car cover and a straight stingerexhausttip, a new tow bar for easy towing and a VW only parking sign!SEE PICTURES!!! IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK!!!
A quick note about me: I am a retired ASE Certified Mechanic of over 30 years andthis is not my first restoration. Now, I just do it as hobby as I just cant help myself! I still enjoy working on cars.So be assuredthe car was not built by a shade tree in a dirt lot. That being said, there is and will be NO warrantygiven with the sale of this car.It is sold ASIS where is. Title is Arizona and clean.
Real fun to drive! You will enjoy adding your own touches to it and making it yours, I'm sure. Thanks for looking!!
