Car description |
---|
Visit zombiemotors.net for more photos and information on this, specifically the M-Tdi engine I built to install in this Crew Cab - I have a photo journal with more pictures of the process as well as many of the other parts I replaced along the way.
As I type this now, truck starts instantly, runs perfectly, IS FAST!! (maybe not Porsche 911 fast, but is definitely a 'sleeper' - and the whistle from the turbo makes it seem even a little faster than it is..) gets great mileage (35 MPG? Better?) , truck is very reliable, very practical/ useful, and... if you are into this sort of thing, it gets a lot of attention everywhere. I spent the last several weeks working on many small problems the truck has as well as doing the major job of replacing the old 50 horsepower engine with over double that and twice the torque, too.
Actual VIN# is WV2ZZZ24ZHH07526, which ebay robot does not recognize, as this is a European vehicle. So, I am forced to indicate it is a 1981 model year, but be assured, it is a very late 1987. Truck will be sold with current GA title in my name, registration here now in my name.
I reserve the right to end this auction at any time, regardless of whether or not truck has bids on it. I have set a reserve that is the least I will take for the truck, which is a solid, reliable, daily driver at this point that just had about $6500 worth of work to it upgrading to a modern direct-injection-turbo-diesel engine and fixing many little mechanical items that required attention during the process. PLEASE do not bid unless you have your finances in order and definitely want to buy this truck, now. Payment due in full within 5 days of auctions end, $500 due at end of auction.
I usually type many paragraphs of information here about the cars i am selling (check my feedback) - but I have finally realized no one reads my ads. If you want to buy this truck, or want to know more, simply call me. If you text, or email without including your phone , you will be ignored.
I did have this listed here about 6 weeks ago when the truck was still running the stock 1.6L engine and had many (small) mechanical issues that needed to be dealt with ... and I ended the auction early for someone who sent a deposit to buy, but then after 2 weeks could not come up with the balance we agreed on. At that time I decide, 'Why not install one of my 1.9 VW Tdi kits to this truck? and either Enjoy I, or sell it for what it is worth?' - I regularly import very low mileage VW engines from Europe and convert them to M-Tdi (For those of you who do not know, this stands for Mechanical-Td, meaning, there are no computers / wiring to have to deal wit, I use a single-wire injection pump and mount it to VW engine using the correct modification, makes for a very easy install, and easier for me to build kits/ sell Westfalia/ Transporter/ Vanagon conversion kits to my customers) - While I was doing this work I also addressed many of the small issues with the truck. In the last 3 weeks, I have replaced :
** 1.6L N/A diesel engine removed.
** Replaced with low-mileage (58K) custom-built 1.9Tdi using a $900 rebuilt mechanical injection pump which, in addition to being brand-new, works perfectly with no issues. (Check my website for more info on these, as well as my Vanagon/T25/Westfalia/Syncro VW Tdi engine conversion kits)
** New Clutch kit
** New Water pump
** New Timing belt/ tensioner/ idler
** New engine rear main seal
** New accelerator cable
** New muffler/ stainless turbo downpipe/ Exhaust hangers
** New water hoses (many, New coolant tank
** New oil cooler
** Rebuilt shifter housing in cab with new bushes to give tight shifting pattern again
** New intercooler pipes and hoses
** NEW Clutch slave cylinder
** NEW 850CCA battery (starts instantl, even below freezing, I never have to use glow plugs)
** New oil pressure sender for VDO real oil pressure gauge which reads actual pressure in BAR
I also tidied up engine compartment, wiring, and many many more things I am forgetting, for sure. I am still going to tinker with this a bit as I use it almost every day and love the truck --- Thinking about moving battery to location under rear seat to give more room in engine compartment for intercooler or air filter, as I am not 100% certain everything is going to stay where they are now.
All this being said, the truck is not perfect, and in fact could be considered a cosmetic 'project'
By the way I just imported this rig the end of Decembe, as this is what I do for a living (check my other auctions and please check my feedback) - Import Tdi Land Rover engines, Defenders, VW Dokas and other 'cool' vehicles here to the USA for resale. The last Doka I had sold about two months ago, and I am thinning the herd here to pay upcoming taxes/ bills, otherwise I would be keeping this truck for my business hauling freight/ crates back and forth to the port here.
Truck is very solid, and with very few small exceptions rust free. I will dedicate a paragraph to the things that are wrong with the truck next, but things that are good about the truck are : Tires are great! Truck has very low miles - showing 180K K, which translates into 112K miles. NEW ENGINE HAS ONLY 58K Miles!! - original speedo that does have 6 digit positions, and odometer works. Engine starts right up (even from freezing) without using glow plugs now. Brakes feel great, stereo works (4 speakers in doors), Has a rare heated rear window and under-rear-seat aux. rear heater which operates from dash controls. Has tachometer (which does not work). Very straight, and paint is shiny and looks nice in my opinion. Much better paint than most of these I bring in. Lights all work. Truck be, while dented consistent with use, is not rusty. Treasure chest is nice. Doors are solid. Has central locking! Working off of a key fob. Halogen H4 headlights are bright. Clutch is new now, and I would not worry about driving this anywhere in the USA right now. Brand-new $200 super-nice CCA battery.
THINGS THAT ARE BAD WITH THE TRUCK :
Drivers side seat has some tears, so front seats are sporting that funky seat cover. Small tears in headliner (2, Very minor rust in body seams - no bubbles, just discoloration, much much nicer than most of these I see, but I need to mention it! There has been a body repair before truck was repainted sometime in the past and you can see evidence of the repair on the panel behind drivers side door, looks like a small crack in the paint, maybe bondo underneath? Again, very minor, but I should mention it. One front step has the famous Vanagon diamond-plate step cover, screwed down over some bubbles/ rust. Other step looks good. Truck paint is NOT PERFEC, but does look nice. Glow plugs have a separate button to operate, (push-button on dash) but you will never need to use them, unless it gets to be substantially below freezing. Transmission has a whine on over-run, gets louder the faster you are traveling. Not alarming, but I should mention it! Top speed in this thing is about 60-65MPH comfortably. Not the fault of this truck, but the nature of these particular beasts.
*** I do have a taller-geared transmission I could include in the sale, it is a 'DT' 4.8:1 box, and with this, Mr. Doka would do 70 + MPH easily with its newfound power and torque!! I do not think I want to install it for anyone as I have other things to do now, but I could throw it in back if we work out something ***
So, in short, this Doka is a bit of a project that you can drive and enjoy right now, as you fix the several small things it would need to be perfect/ hassle-free. You can drive it anywhere now, as-is - Very presentable and this double cab gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes.
Remember : TRUCK JUST HAD A TON OF MAJOR WORK DONE TO IT ; so mechanically, you should not have to worry about it for a long time. You have a very fresh engine, clutch, exhaus, and more 'little' things you can only change by crawling around under the truck for hours getting dirty to do ... Not to worry, it has been done now. Go get this thing painted and get some VW alloys on it, and it will look spiffy!
