Car description

WILL NEED TRANS REBUILT! Keep reading if you are still interested. This is a very clean Vanagon! A couple very minimal spots of surface rust. It has the weekender package interior with the jump seats, table and rear bench that folds into a bed. Includes original curtains as well. Interior needs a good shampoo but shows very little wear. There is a spot of rust at the corner of the furthest back window on the driver side, under the license plate cover, and a dent that needs repaired right above the passenger rear wheel well (classic place to mis judge a turn in a cab forward van!) It appears the metal around the rear wiper got pushed in and someone did a terrible job of trying to put some filler on it. It's not rust, just some filler over solid sheet metal.
Has the Carat package which includes lower body cladding, aluminum wheels, A/C, power steering, upgraded stereo, power windows, etc.
I bought this last spring from a family that had owned it for 15-20 yrs. I test drove it and it ran and drove excellent. I returned to purchase it and on my drive home the trans made a bad noise and then I only had 3rd gear. I had no 1,2 or reverse. I drove it 30 miles home and it did great on the freeway. I could cruise at 70-75 mph with no vibration, etc. Once off the freeway acceleration was a struggle with no first or second gear. When I got home I changes the trans fluid hoping for a miracle cure. No such luck! It had some light metal dust in the fluid. Once refilled it found reverse, but on a ride around the block it started forcing trans fluid out of the filler tube. I parked it and weighed the options of a trans rebuild or swap. Life has gotten in the way of having the time to undertake the project so I am selling it as is.
Motor starts and runs well with a slight exhaust leak. Needs ignition wires. When I started it recently it was sparking out of one of the wires. I taped it just to make it better but still was periodically sparking. If it didn't need the trans I would certainly do a tune up before selling but at this point not sure it makes sense. You can't let it run for more than a couple minutes because the trans fluid starts pouring out of the fill tube.
Almost everything works. Drivers window needs a regulator, A/C not working. All else good. Brand new Bosch battery. Decent tires.
NO RESERVE! BID TO OWN IT! And I'm not some jerk who says NO RESERVE and then the truck gets re listed 10 times! High bidder gets it!
