Car description

CLASSIC OLD SCHOOL 1965 CALIFORNIA BAJA W FULL ROLL CAGE & METAL TILT FRONT END!For your consideration is one very unique old school vintage 1965 VW Baja Bug with a full welded-in roll cage which extends through the firewall out to the front axle assembly support with adjustable coil over shocks and old school metal tilt front end! This old Baja has a lot of unique features and may have seen some vintage old school Baja Racing long ago though I do not have any type of racing history on it. The car was heavily modified a very long time ago and has had a lot of custom welding done to it. It is for the most part a rust free California car though the two rear floor panels were replaced / repaired at one time but they were done many years ago before they apparently had access to stock style replacement floor panels and cut straight steel plate was used instead for the replacement repair panels which were in turn welded into the floor. The car has a complete welded into the floor roll cage added to it as well. There were extensive modifications done to the front end as well. The area behind the dash was reworked and modified. There was an old school air tank added in the front which is located just above the original gas tank which also has a small magnet plate on top of it which has extra brake shoe retaining pins and screws stuck to it. Injected Foam was used as a light weight filler material around the area of the air tank. The front end is a full metal tilt front end which still needs some welds added to some of the seams between where the modified metal hood and fenders were cut and welded together. There is scattered "surface only" rust which is located mostly on the underside of the front hood and both the underside and top side of the front fenders which simply needs to be sanded and primed. The front axle which is supported on the top of the H beam by the roll bar extensions coming through the front firewall has had some additional old school modifications done to it as well with the tie rods having been cut and uniquely step welded back together to accommodate for the additional height difference of the suspension arms in the front H beam. Steel plate was welded into the back sides of the body in the area of the upper wheel wells and brackets were also welded to both rear swing arms to accommodate for adjustable dual coil over shocks being added to the rear suspension. Again this is all cool old school design stuff. The center emergency brake assembly was removed to accommodate for the addition of custom re-routed insulated fuel line, rake line and electrical line being routed and secured to the top central area of the floor tunnel. There was also a fuel cut off lever added toward the back as well which is located just under the modified rear seat area which now has a flat insulated wood panel in place of the rear seat with an old school custom made hinged flip-up wood cover in the middle it which is where the battery is housed. Also the area behind where the rear seat back would be located between the back of the roll cage has been modified into a insulated storage box with a wooden lid. The car has fiberglass / plastic type racing seats and there is an area located on the one horizontal cross support for the roll cage just above the passenger seat where the wiring harness comes up and ends where there was once apparently a group of toggle switches located. The car has old school Dietz chrome housing headlights on it which are mounted on the custom made tubular front bumper bar. I do not have the rear fenders for it but I do have all the original glass and new seals for the glass with the exception of the windshield glass and windshield seal. There are no gauges in the dash. I do not have a running engine for the car but the short block that is attached to it does come with it but I believe it is frozen and one of the heads is no good so it will need a complete motor. The transmission is in good condition and shifts properly. The door handles both inside and out on both doors including the door striker plates are missing and will need to be added but the door latch assemblies and lock lever control rods are still present. The window regulators are present as well but the original door glass which is included with the car will need to be installed. There are no interior door trim panels present and there are no interior quarter trim panels present either. The floor has had light weight sound deadening insulation material added to it as well as the inside roof area which has also had the same light weight sound deadening material added to it as well. The wheels are the old school painted black steel wheels with the rears being the same style but of a more deep dish design. This old school Baja has a lot of character and will look totally cool when fully restored. I originally picked it up with the intention of doing it myself but have not been able to find the time to do so. The car is currently being stored inside my warehouse to protect it from the outside elements. I am currently asking 850.00 or Best Offer for the Baja so don't be afraid to make me what you feel would be a fair offer on it because I need to make space in my warehouse so I am very serious about selling the car.
