Car description |

After 35 years of ownership, I'm selling my 1979 Triumph Spitfire 2-door roadster.A four-cylinder gasoline engine, 1493 cc, four-speed manual transmission with the optional overdrive. Today's mileage is 53,616. It has a black soft top and a tonneau cover, plus a storage cover. It has been garaged kept and I have never driven it in the winter, so it's solid and basically free of rust (the vehicle was undercoated by the previous owner). Aesthetically the car shows its age a bit, but its overall condition is good. The car passed the rigorous New Hampshire inspection for 2020. I have the Owner's Manual, Repair Manual, and catalogs for companies that sell parts for British made automobiles.
NOTE: as of 8th Sept, needs mechanical repair - engine won't start.
There are several small projects that the new owner can do to bring this car up to its original condition and if the car was re-painted, it would win trophies. All mechanical work was professionally completed. I have the mechanic's receipts that show 2000 miles on a new clutch and 1500 miles for new front brakes and exhaust and other work.
The reason I'm selling is that I'm at the age (76) where it is difficult for me to get in and out of the car (one hip replacement and one to go), consequently I hardly drive the car anymore. I've only driven it 150 miles in the last three years. Just sitting in the garage not being driven is not good for any car. I hate to part with this beauty but realize that now it's time for someone else to enjoy
The car starts and runs, but once in awhile it stalls. A "Triumph" knowledgeable friend told me that the problem was more than likely the carburetor gumming up from the ethanol that is now added to gasoline.
I have a clear title. Purchase is by cash only. I will not ship - the car has to be picked up at my residence at Rumney, New Hampshire.
