Car description |

1968 Triumph Spitfire. The VIN number on this is actually a '67 but it was sold and therefore titled in '68. This car is unique as the VIN says its a MK2 but the fold-away top makes it a MK3. It has my local Triumph guy stumped as well!
This has been a labor of love for the last 10 years or so. My brother started with it and then passed it on to me to finish it.
The body has been removed and all rusty panels and floors were replaced with new ones. The frame was not worth saving so we sourced one from a 1973 that was in great shape...........We wanted more "umph" under the hood, so we sourced a straight 6 from a 1969 GT6 and had it bored out and rebuilt. It also has a new clutch. The hood was modified to accept the longer block......It has been completely re-wired with a Painless wiring harness and modern fuses. The battery has been moved to the trunk, with a master 'kill switch" installed.......Carbs have been rebuilt, fuel pump replaced, along with fuel regulator, and new master cylinder, and plenty more!
Interior is basically brand new with carpets, door cards, re-covered dash, refreshed gauges, oil pressure gauge added, seat covers and of course, a brand new convertible top.
Odometer says 89,000, but the title says 108K. The speedo/odometer has clearlybeen changed sometime in its past. However the rebuilt motor has less than 1,000 miles on it. Probably less than 500.
We have the chrome bumpers! The rears are in good shape, the front is in OK shape. I just like the look of the car better without them! We also have many other spare parts collected over the years that are all included.
A modern stereo was installed with an Aux port and Bluetooth. I dont have the original radio. 6x9 Pioneer speakers were fitted behind the seats.
It is REALLY fun to drive! It is great for local car shows and cruise nights or just a weekend drive for ice cream.
The paint was done several years ago but still looks very good. It has some imperfections but a good professional wet sand and polish would elevate it nicely. I would NOT list this as a show car but I would list it as a VERY nice driver. That said, this would be great for a local cruise night or car club show. You would not be laughed at!
We have over 11k invested in this classic! Hagery lists a "3" car at $6,200 and a "2" car as $11,700. This car is much closer to a "2" than a "3". This beauty is likely priced below market value.
A couple of items for full disclosure, When the previous owner replaced the drivers rear quarter, the wheel well fitment was not perfect. This makes that well appear about an inch smaller than the passenger side. (See pic) There was a bit of "rubbing" but since we had the leaf spring re-arched, there has not been any issues. The spare tire and jack were sourced from a toyota. The bolt pattern was slightly different so we elongated the lug holes to fit the car. I do have a tire and rim from an older TR that does fit the bolt pattern, but with the tire currently on it, it does not fit in the trunk. There is also a slight oil leak coming from the rear of the oil pan.
I would encourage serious buyers to come and see the car before buying. Test drives are also encouraged! Contact me and we will set up a viewing.
If you have been looking for a great little British Sports Car, but cant afford the high-end TR's, come give this one a look over. You will not be disappointed.
